A story of 20 INR

An interesting story.

My friends Sidharth Vijayan and Stalvart John and I went to watch a movie today evening at cinemax. The movie was Immortals and it was a 4.30 PM show. We had checked in the city express news paper of the Indian Express and confirmed it was showing at Cinemax.

Now we reach there on the dot and go in to buy the tickets only to be rubbed off by the ticket counter executive who never talks without a mic.The COMMITED SHOW advertised in the paper was cancelled. This was something that repeatedly happens.

Well, this has happened more than once, and we decided to go back home without the movie and with a craving for caramel popcorn. We reach my car and then we think, why exactly should we provide the parking fee (20 Rupees) because we were hardly there for 10 minutes and as it is, we had burnt the golden fuel (Yes I drive a petrol car).

We argue at the exit and say we are not ready to pay the parking fee and obviously the cars pile up and the parking manager comes in and tells us, oberon has outsourced the parking to another organization so we need to talk to the manager in the mall.

We go up again and meet the Facility manager at oberon Mr Thomas who seems incredibly arrogant at first sight probably because he did not take us seriously.

He was extremely rude and was raising his voice and then we lost our cool. Told him to talk properly as we are the mall’s patrons and we are using the mall’s services and the mall holds the movie house – Cinemax and he has to give us an explanation or refund for the parking. He refuses and ridicules our argument.

We really did not need his bullshit and told him very clearly, to sort things out for us or work towards a mature understanding, which he blindly was against. Things went bad again as he started raising his voice every time he spoke and we clearly told him we don’t use hearing aid and we can hear properly. He said we need to talk to the Cinemax management. We understand it was NOT  mall’s issue, but CINEMAX was the one to be blamed for this, But the manager should have behaved properly !

We spoke to the cinemax senior manager and interestingly he admitted the problem was in his part, but refused a refund. Sidharth clearly told him, we came to watch a movie buying tickets worth 150 bucks and have popcorn worth 100 bucks and for us 20 rupees is not the issue. But being unethical and making  fools ou of us was the issue.

The Aftermath

Luckily thanks to the six connection rule (You can have a contact with any stranger with a gap of 6 people) thanks to Stalvart, who knew the owner and partner of the mall. Unfortunately both were out of station and we got hold of the executive director’s number and informed him about his brash facility manager who is going to cause extreme damage to oberon’s reputation the way he makes things work or supposedly tries to.

We filed a case against the Cinemax management for a damage of 20 rupees in the consumer court. Let’s see if we get that parking fee. 🙂

The matter was clearly not a 20 rupees parking fee, but the matter was paying for something we did not use the service for. We raised this issue. Many would not even do it. We need to wake up against this utter bull crap of a monopoly and put our foot down on such things. Let us not forget, we are the youth and unless we speak out loud we won’t be heard.
