Future of Naukri+Shine Vs LinkedIn

Wanted to know your views on what do you think is the future of Naukri + Shine when compared to LinkedIn. No doubt LinkedIn has made huge strides but what is lacking in LinkedIn because of which still Naukri makes huge profits. Can the gap be closed by LinkedIn or she will have to focus on India market specifically (with second largest member base from India, it must).

The way I see

1)      Currently LinkedIn works well for professional industries or industries looking to excel. So candidates start creating professional profiles, start participating in groups, companies come on board looking for good match. If you are part of those long tail who hedge only on employee salaries and 1 exit is as good as 1 new hire then LinkedIn may not have a lot of value. In short, vicious cycle

2)      For example, currently in IT sector and start-ups, LinkedIn is adding a lot of value. For industries like factories etc, for most of them 1 exit = 1 hire so for them Naukri and Shine may work as they need candidate information only when they hire.

3)      Currently any CV upload in these portals works on keyword basis. A mention of understanding of Java in any marketing project will give you hordes of software engineer opportunities.

On the flipside

1)      LinkedIn currently doesn’t work so well for people with less than 5-6 yrs experience (as per one of the senior exec from one of these leading job portals).

2)      “Budget recruiters” which form long tail may get good deals on recruiter packages. With no recruiters, many candidates just looking for a job do not even venture to create LinkedIn profiles (Do they even know). In short, a vicious cycle.

Probably those who have started up in job recruitment space can throw more light as they too I believe have the same disadvantage that Naukri and Shine have i.e. don’t have professional network that LinkedIn has built. Would love to hear what prompted them to enter this market.
