Indian invited to participate in World’s first renewable South Pole expedition

I am Sunil kumar, a 27 year old CA from Hyderabad working with Amazon. I am a silent robinhooder since quite a few years. I got invited for the World’s first South Pole last degree expedition surviving completely on renewable energy (Solar, Wind & Bio fuels) for which NASA is one of the technology partners.

Only 10 people from various parts of the world are invited. I am proud that India is a part of it and I got an opportunity to lead the nation in this historic expedition. This expedition is going to change the perspective of the world towards renewable power. India will be torch bearer to the entire world in clean energy.

The motto is to prove to the entire world “If renewable power helps us survive in the world’s harshest place ‘Antarctica’, it will work anywhere”. I will walk around 100 kms for 10 days carrying the India flag in temperatures of around -40 to -50 degrees & wind speeds of 200 miles/hr to reach South Pole. This will happen in January 2018 for 10 days. This is led by Sir Robert Swan, first person on the planet to walk to both North Pole & South Pole. We will cook our food using solar power (NASA tech), move our body using wind power (Siemens tech) and communicate with the outside world using biofuels (Shell tech). Apart from these, other technology partners include organisations like Goal Zero, ABC power etc.

About Myself: I am a CA & CWA by qualification with All India first rank. I was working with Amazon as Site Financial controller for Amazons’ world’s biggest CS site. I have quit my job at Amazon to focus on this expedition as I felt it is my responsibility to give my 100% for the cause of sustainability through my participation. I participated in International Antarctic expedition led by Robert Swan in 2015. While I was in Antarctica, experiences there changed my perspective towards environment and sustainability completely.

Those life changing experiences are well covered by an interview given to Indiatimes.com. Link for the same is: https://bit.ly/2oJP7mM. I have convinced few schools to go 100% renewable from fossil fuels.

I am fully confident that this Green expedition will equip me with experiences & inspiration to change the perspective of young Indians towards clean energies and most importantly an inspiration to Indian youth that nothing is impossible for a small town young boy with determination.

Fund raising campaign:

I need to raise INR 92 lakhs for the same (Expedition fee – INR 58 lakhs, Training, travel & equipment –INR 34 lakhs). I am looking for corporate as well as individual sponsors. I am involving young people right from fund rising stage itself as the objective of the expedition itself is to bring awareness and change the perspective of young people. I started a crowd funding campaign requesting all Indians to contribute just 1 rupee for every kilometre I walk in my journey to South Pole (that’s Rs 100/person) so that the message reaches more Indians ( Link: https://bit.ly/2mmhdGU ). This is not an individual journey but a journey of India as a nation to lead the world in clean energy for a better future. Loksatta movement founder Mr. Jayaprakash Narayan endorsed my campaign.

Benefits to corporates for collaboration: I am sure that corporates could get good mileage for associating with this event. Corporates will get benefit in three ways. (a)Pre expedition promotion during press meets & events (b) Sponsor Logo at South Pole (c) Post expedition promotion for entire year in all the possible ways like press meets, talks & commercials etc. I am open to any innovative promotions which could benefit sponsors.

Thanks a lot,
