Question #1 to Arvind Kejriwal – How would you indict Rajat Gupta?

Now that Arvind Kejriwal has turned politician and will be seeking our votes, it gives me the right to ask him a few questions on his policies, his line of thinking and his ability to figure out problems.

This is my Question #1:

Dear Arvind Kejriwal,

Assume that you were the judge in the Rajat Gupta Case.

What sentence would you have given him?

Background:

Rajat Gupta has turned out to be horribly ‘corrupt’ and has brought shame and disgrace to India, to Indians, to the Banking Community, and to the reputation of the institutions he represented.

Rajat was really lucky to get a light 2 years prison sentence + a 5 million US$ fine because the presiding judge is very lenient. (Despite his pro-goodness attitude, the Judge called Rajat Gupta’s crimes “disgusting”).

Now, you Mr. Kejriwal protest violently about corruption, about how the guilty should be severely punished, brought to justice, imprisoned, etc etc.

So, what punishment would you have given to Mr. Rajat Gupta and why?

Remember that you could have easily gone up to 10 years, etc and made life really difficult for him.

How do you balance your view on corruption vs. the past deeds of the person charged?

What matters to you??

Yours faithfully,

Alok Rodinhood Kejriwal
