Setting up your first Server

Dear Friends,

We need OS help on setting up our first server for our office.

Last month, we purchased an entry level HP Proliant ML 10 server with 8 GB RAM.

The objective was to consolidate all the data on different hard drives, and allow secured access to our team – We have five other client computers to connect to server.

I was keen on going ahead with Small business server 2011, but it seems its discontinued…not sure…written mails to Redington and Ingram, no response yet.

Need help on which operating system to install here, which is easy to use and cost effective too…

These are the OS recommended by HP: –

Microsoft Windows HPC Server 2008 R2
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation Edition
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 W32
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x64
Microsoft Windows Server 2012
Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Essentials
Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard and Essentials – this product seems to be discontinued..can you check
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (AMD64/EM64T)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86)

I guess Win server 2003 seems to be not supported by this machine.

Win server 2012 – Licensed copy is costing around Rs. 48,000/-

What are the other options for an OS for a similar machine.

Facing some problems with the performance as mentioned below..

Even the retailer of HP is unable to offer the weblink of motherboard drivers…

Thanks a lot,
