User Management/Login on websites using Facebook/Twitter (etc). Why people would be wary?

 

Recently saw some comments on a discussion that people did not like login/registering using a facebook account on websites. 

Why would that be the case? I mean facebook ecosystem enables that your password is not shared, you exactly know what permissions you are giving to the website, you don’t have to remember yet one more userid-pwd. So, in a nutshell, a facebook login seems like a no brainer. Infact for quite a few websites, facebook login could be the ONLY means of registering/login. To help users allay any fears of misuse of information, companies also can state how they will use information collected from facebook for their accounts. (bring in transparency). So, what’s wrong with having a facebook login and why would people be wary of using it

Would like to know from members here:

  1. Would they be comfortable with a facebook(social) login on a startup website?  If not why not?
  2. What would make them comfortable to use social login (for example asking for ONLY the relevant permissions)
  3. Would some sort of incentivisation work? You get some ‘value/rewards’ for sharing your information. For example, Myntra.com gives 1500 credit points for registering using facebook & only 1000 credit points for normal registration. 

Would love to hear form members – both from a user perspective & a person who could be thinking of building a website (incorporate facebook login)
