I have a real story to share with you.

On a bright afternoon in 1960s, two young men joined a car dealership as sales person. They were very much alike, these two young men. Both had been average students, both were personable and both – as young people are – were filled with ambitious dreams for the future.

Recently, these two men met after almost five decades. They were still very much alike. Both were happily married. Both had grandchildren. And both, it turned out, had retired from working full time.

But there was a difference. One of the men retired as a manager in a dealership of that company. The other has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s greatest salesman because he sold around Thirteen Thousand cars at a dealership between 1963 and 1978. His name is Joe Girard who used to send a greeting card every month to his customers.

Have you ever wondered, as I have, what makes this kind of difference in people’s lives? It isn’t always a native intelligence or talent or dedication. It isn’t that one person wants success and the other doesn’t. The difference lies in what each person knows and how he or she makes use of that knowledge.
