How do I start a business?

A lot of my work going friends these days tell this to me “I don’t want to spend the rest of my life staring at a screen. I want to start something but I do not know ‘what to start’?”. Well. This blog is for people who have the same thoughts. First of all, I congratulate you that you are eager to push your limits and you just kicked complacency.

Humans are not made to be complacent. People often confuse complacency with ‘desire to achieve’ due to their religious beliefs. No religion said you should not aspire.

The world is inefficient. There are millions of inefficiencies with the way the world functions. Eureka! That’s why there are millions of business opportunities. Are you confused what is the relation between the world being efficient and the number of opportunities? 🙂 . Read on.

Identify :

Well. If you try to make one inefficient functioning of the world a bit more efficient, you have a huge business opportunity. Identify what you feel is inefficient with the world. What did whatsapp solve? It solved a simple inefficiency in our communication capability. Being on whatsapp has made us more capable of reaching out to our friends or co-founders. Likewise you can try to solve a simple inefficiency. Be aware of what’s happening in the world. Just observe everything in your day to day life. I am sure you will find a clear inefficiency which you would be inherently capable of solving it. It could be the simplest of problems like making worn out shoes wearable. I am not kidding. There’s a business based on this. Sandeep Gajakas of www.theshoelaundry.com/ does it.

Imagine :

Imagine a process in your mind to solve the problem.  If you feel a human process is needed, think who will be needed for it. And remember that you do not need to be a programmer to write code if you think a technology process can solve the problem. You can always get someone do the coding for you. (of course he/she has to be equally passionate with what they do). The main point is here you should imagine a solution and form a process around it. That would be the algorithm to solve the inefficiency you are aiming at.

Implement :

Now implement the solution you thought can work out. Almost 90 percent of the time, your solution 1.0 will not solve the inefficiency but your solution 1.1 has a higher probability of solving the inefficiency. 🙂 Solution 1.1 cannot be implemented if you create solution 1.0 and fail in it .

In a nutshell, Identify a problem, Imagine a process-oriented solution(use technology or intersperse technology with human based processes and validate it), Implement. Now You have a business. Thumb rule is IDENTIFY,IMAGINE, IMPLEMENT.

Abracadabra – YOU HAVE A BUSINESS. 🙂
