Its about this off beat event called ‘The Burning Man’ in the USA where tech twerps meet to do anything but discuss tech. Also, they are NOT allowed to carry gadgets, tech devices etc.
SO, what do these techies do?
They SHOWCASE their Creativity by Art Installations, the way they Dress etc etc

Also, its held in Nevada, where ANYTHING goes…
Given that this festival is now over 25 years, its reached ANOTHER LEVEL.
My FB friend Arvind Singh (ex IIT G) quickly suggested that we should have something similar in India. And in GOA!
Great Idea! and Great suggestion.
However, this is what I want to discuss here:
– We are in INDIA. So, we know the rules and do’s and dont’s.
– The guys who come to Burning Man are very creative, and LIBERATED – they may be techies for a living. We need to respect our Indian Culture and our own sense of expression (side read – Can we Make a Hangover in India)
– Lets start with something that distills te BEST of Burning Man:
LETS THINK OF THE YEDA FESTIVAL (yeda in mumbai means ‘cracked, insane).
TO ME IT MEANS
Y – YOU
E – EXPRESSION
D – DOESN’T MATTER
A – ALL FOR ALL
IT ALSO CLOSELY COMES TO MY GURU – YODA!!!!
Thinking points:
– Come one, come all – no discriminations. This is NOT ONLY FOR TECHIES.Its for EVERYONE
– NO TALKING SHOP. Just come and present IDEAS – now matter how STUPID, SILLY, OBNOXIOUS, ….. THOUGHT it can be?
– Dress AS YEDA, Show YEDA Drawings, CONCEPTS, ART, TATOO’s anything, T- Shirt Designs, everything etc etc etc
– No fires, no firearms, no BAD STUFF
We meet in a resort / beach in GOA – show stuff in the auditorium, on the poolside, etc etc…whatever?
What’s the END OBJECTIVE?
= EXPRESSION without FEAR of COMMERCE OR PRACTICALITY etc in one place
= Showcase of IDEAS
= Meeting of similar minded people
= FUN
= If successful, YEDA can move to cities etc etc?!!
We ask an Entrance fees ( for the rental of whatever) and the rest is taken care by the visitors themselves (staying eating, etc etc so that its easy to manage)
HERE IS MY FIRST CONTRIBUTION TO YEDA:
I would LOVE to create an Installation of this there.

Yet another occasion where I think “Sri Lanka is so close to India – and yet so far away”. So much fun stuff, but so hard to participate.
Even the relatively short trip to South India necessitates booking a plane flight a few weeks in advance (due to overcrowding) and obtaining a visa. Damn.

Crazy stuff, its more about instalations so yes we should have one in India obviously in Mumbai. I am with you Alok,I would love to be part of
adding few more rules-no bare bodies, no shading clothes, it will be an yearly event I think IITS, ENGENEERING , mba,ADVERTISING, COLLEGES CORPORATE,MEDIA. the list of people who will participate from is endless in India
I want to make an installation made up of USED Bislery bottels a huge sculpture just to say USE LESS PLASTIC
