Junglee giving random results

Hi rodinhooders,

I was just having a sneak peak at one of the rodinhood discussion in which Alok Sir had talked about junglee. That was the first time I visited it first and I didn’t like it because it had a static database.

So basically what I saw after many search results was that junglee displayed  price A for a product and when I clicked on the site and navigated to the seller’s website the price had changed altogether.

The reason: Static database. The data is fed in servers and is changed periodically. Hence many a times you see a price difference.

Today again I came across the post and thought of having a look at their website. And the blooper had become bigger. What I came across was astonishing.

I just gave a trial search of Steve Jobs on the first page found some 3 to 4 results. I went to cheapest result and saw that junglee said 5 sellers were offering it. See the pic below.

And I scrolled down and saw only 4. OK that’s a minor one glitch. Let’s move on.

So I clicked on the cheapest result by indiatimes shopping and magic happened. Instead of Steve Jobs I was given Brilliant Stress Management.

Seriously the changing price was a major blooper but changing products that’s not at all acceptable.

Meanwhile in parallel universe – Buyhatke gets launched. I am Gaurav and we are a group of dedicated Hatke Rodinhooders who have launched Buyhatke. ( https://www.buyhatke.com/

It’s India’s first dynamic product and price search engine. You can search for any product you wish of – may it be BMW cars, mobiles, lifestyle, sports, baby products, old coins, cakes, flowers and the list is just endless.

Buyhatke would search for it from 30+ credibile stores and fetch you out the best deal for that moment. (Yes that instant – So the price would never change!!!) And what’s more we also have a lot of credible stores added to us. (Flipkart, infibeam, ebay etc) So you know your order is in safe hands. We have applied cutting edge technology and complex machine learning processes to filter of trash and give the best to the consumers and we are constantly improving.

We have started off with a plan of wrapping the pleasures of physical shopping online without the hassles and our first step towards it is the social shopping experience.

Always wanted to know what would be the perfect gift for your friend. We would be suggesting you that. We have developed a pretty unique method by which we can tell you the best gift for your friends, family and lovers. You now know what your friends are searching for and you can become the trending “knows it all” guru by just being hatke and knowing what’s hot.

Our vision is to give the ultimate shopping experience to the consumers and your feedback at https://compare.buyhatke.com/contact.php would be of prime importance in helping us reach there. There might be glitches, there might be stupid mistakes on our part, there might be things we haven’t thought off, but we assure you that once you show us them they would be dealt with at the speed of lightning. Rodinhood communities mentorship and guidance would help us go the whole marathon and keep continuing in style.

Once and for always – A Hatke rodinhooder !!!

  1. It’s a good effort. But I personally didn’t like the results returned by your price search engine… It’s not different.. I understand how price comparison works as few months back I was working on the same concept but initially in a blog format..the major problem with this price comparison is discounts, coupons isn’t included as part of it to show the real price… If u check https://sabaecheapest.blogspot.com..I dropped the idea to continue it further because personally as a user I have tried many ecommerce sites by actually buying from them..later on after getting bad products, late deliveries, pathetic customer care.. Only one of them I started trusting flipkart even if cost is more..my personal thought was ecommerce has not matured much to actually compare their prices..my two paisa 🙂

  2. Ashish we are working on figuring out the solution for the same. The blog link you gave doesn’t work. There are many cases for which people trust different brands like shoppersstop, myntra, jabong, infibeam etc, So personally I feel the e commerce is pretty ripe and even if it is not we would be the first players and the leaders when it becomes ripe 😀

  3. Yes, Its good to be the first one and no doubt about it. Its not only Flipkart, there are few other good players too surely but overall the e-commerce market with really good players is still in single digits.  Actually, the point I was trying to make is confidence of the first time e-commerce customers. If he/she gets a raw or bad deal (ex Timtara.com) in this very first purchase in e-commerce world by referring the cheapest price from your website, it’s a bad karma. It will scare him to do his next purchase from some random website and stick to some known or reliable e-commerce website. Generally, products on these websites comes with a premium.

Personally if I don’t believe in anything its difficult for me to convince someone else to do it. So, when I was comparing prices on blog manually and in parallel developed a screen scrapper. I felt even if the price is low, their service is not great through my first hand experience of actually buying stuff from them. The price comparison/cheapest price really has great potential but it should have good e-commerce websites to support it. I misspelled the blog address, it was https://sabsecheapest.blogspot.com. Its very basic thing nothing special but it account for all the discount coupons and rebates at one place, not updated since the start of this year.

  4. Hi Gaurav,

I checked out your site, but it’s having the same problem as you said junglee is having. A Nokia Lumia 925 on your site says is being sold for 26990 on Amazon, but it’s actually being sold at 28000. I know 1K isn’t a big difference, but essentially you’re aslo doing waht you pointed out in this post that junglee doing wrong.
