Requesting feedback on my start-up

Hi Rodinhoods!

After a 1.5 month effort,my start-up venture is off the blocks! Trade O’ Sports is built around the concept of a fantasy sports stock exchange where fans buy and sell stocks of their favorite players on the Trading Floor. Currently we’re testing out the platform within a small community for the Cricket World Cup season. Would request you to check out www.tradeosports.com and post your feedback on this discussion thread. Also, the website is best viewed in Chrome/Firefox now..we’re working to get the IE version run smoothly.

Cheers!

Arindam

  1. Arindam. Concept is nice. The interface is not very exciting. Check out the betting websites of UK. I found them nice for such a concept.

  2. Thanks Avik and Jyoti..any specific comments on the interface?

  3. Hi Arindam – The interface looks good and decent. I guess you may want to add a column, more like a help section to make people get a hang of this and how this works. I’m not very sure on how to plan to get people involved, however it does sound intriguing to understand that. From an interface perspective, my only feedback would be to concentrate on the fonts of the site. They seem to be a little disproportionate, even though viewed in Firefox.

  4. Nice stuff.  1.5 months is a short time – how many of you involved?

    Quick points :

    1) It’s not clear to the user how to proceed.   For example, on confirming my mail ID, get me to the trading screen so that I can purchase players and teams immediately.

    2) Not sure what a IPO means?  I can’t mentally co-related a IPO with a sport / sportsman.

    3) Have you thought of a concept of Exchanges?  So, I choose the F1 Exchange, Cricket Exchange, etc.

    4) Where are the winnings?  That should be your number one item for consumers.

    5) I like the ticker stream at the bottom, but it’s too quick.  A snapshot on the landing page, listing the Top players [of your game], top trades, and even links to news articles.

    6) What’s the business model for publishing partners?  I didn’t see any ads, so is there anything else?  Virtual goods to purchase more cash to buy players?

  5. Thanks for the suggestions Sachin & Mahesh..

We’re a couple of classmates working on this business idea and we’ve a team of 3 Comp. Sc. final year students from IIT Kgp helping us out with the platform development. The business model is an ad supported one but our prime focus in this phase is to test the stability of the product and get feedback from the users. Hence, we’ve left out ads for now.

The suggestions are really helpful and we’ll surely work on these to have a user friendly product before our full fledged launch before the IPL.

    Thanks!

  6. I think key to your product is the way you calculate their rankings, and how up-to-date it is.  Player’s prices should change as per the game progresses, so you’ll need a team of reporters almost like cricinfo does.

While matches are going on, the UI should be different ?  e.g. filter the list of players who are currently playing, and let that be the first thing a user sees.  A different colour for players he has invested in.
