Where’s our CTO, have you seen him/her?

TRHS is where we were born and we expect to grow here. It has the cream of people and content.

Introducing Tete-a-Rent, India’s 1st peer to peer fashion marketplace.

We are on the last leg to raise our 1st round of funding (after almost 7 grueling sessions with VCs and Early Stage Investment firms) and looking for a CTO Co-Founder.

If you are looking for a salary, do stop reading the post right here. There’s much more happening in other posts by my fellow Rodinhooders

We are building something that has attracted so much attention and most of all interest within 3 months that we could not be anymore excited. We are looking for a sibling that can share the excitement with us, and is not in for the money (of course, if it works, you stand to gain a lot).

Listing down the ever so boring list of expertise is not how we work. If you know in and out of Magento, PHP, admirable knowledge of the right hosting choice as per traffic, keen aesthetic sense, technical recruiting, in Bangalore and can spare at least 3 hours a day for us, do drop us a mail. We can further the dialogue. We basically believe in the fact that a team is one that makes up for the shortcomings of one another with no ego whatsoever. So you will be having an initiation ceremony if you are picked.

Am not promising you millions (because let’s face it, who on earth knows what’s gonna happen tomorrow), but like hell can promise you a fun experience. If you have been part of a startup before, even better, if not, we’ll show you how to live life king size while being frugal.

More than what we need, this is where we are;

– Total Team strength = 5
– Core Founders = 2
– Tech team = 3
– Interested investors = 7 (this is when we realized we are not chasing a green fairy ;-))
– From the meetings and further communications, who we feel actually get our vision = 4
– Supply interest from vendors = 35
– Demand interest from calls & mails = endless
– Current site status = Soft launch and uploading products before full launch next month. Mobile app half way through
Personality = However you are, we are cool. Just don’t bring in past professional or personal baggage. Come with a clear head and lots of excitement. All that matters is, you share the same vision with us. We work hard and party harder in the true essence of the phrase.

Interested folks drop me a mail on mithun [at] tete-a-rent [dot] com or a Whatsapp on +91-88619-25332, will catch up for a beer, coffee or whatever rocks your boat.

Cheers,
Mithun Chandra

  1. Just when I was thinking of throwing out my oversized, albeit faded, trousers this morning!

Unfortunately, I dont fit your criteria for location, Magento expertise nor hours per day, but willing to help whenever you need. Certainly sounds interesting.

What does your present tech team comprise of?

  2. Hey Mahesh,

Thank you for the kind words. Have sent you a request kindly accept it so we can migrate our conversation there.

  3. Hi Mithun,

Will you be similar to 99dresses??

When I started out, one of our experiments in our lab led to the idea of virtual wardrobe,

    {Yes that chubby boy in that video is me :P}

Then I researched the market and gathered some insights on retail and shared economy, I hope they will be helpful for you in the long run.

    1. For every dress there is a reason – what people know and how they show it, is not captured {HUGE GAP} Brands only have data on the spending habits of their customers – but not on how/when they use these garments

    2. Shared economy in India does not work on money {Indian Society believes in strong Karma, so we generally like to give away our old clothes without expecting anything in return}. And also if people have money, they would actually go and buy something new rather than used. Maybe some kind of reward/coupoun system will work perfectly

    3. There is no application available which tells me what other people will wear at an event/party so that I don’t wear something similar, maybe you can do something about this.

As per your post, well I cannot be in Bangalore yet …

What if you can outsource your CTO profile to us, my company can certainly work on your requirements.

BTW I run Gade Autonomous Systems Private Limited. Its a R&D consulting company, we design algorithms for some awesome AI and robotics companies around the world.

Ping me if this interests you 🙂

    Sasi

  4. Hey Sasi,

    Thank you for the pointers.

Not exactly like 99Dresses, but can’t negate the fact that we all part of the same family. We have molded it to suit the Indian market. Its funny you should mention the virtual wardrobe as we have plans for that in the near future and already in talks with a few firms.

    1) We go for complete transparency here. It’s a user run site and not by us or the sellers alone. Credibility and Trust will be the currency. We will have online stylists for anytime assistance, a style feed that will help users learn on how to pair items with what, a fashion blog and a long list of features. Not just restricted to selling second hand wardrobe items.

    2) Yes, if they have money they would prefer buying something new, but we are going for a whole different audience and set of products here.

    3) That is something I would picture a Wooplr doing, than us.

We are talking about expensive bridal or wedding items worn once that will be sold at less than half the price. Zara, Mango, H&M, Vero Moda, UCB, Aldo etc that are like new, again available at throw away prices. As it is, most of the items online are either refurbished, tried on and returned or even worn once and returned, who knows.

We also have, hand picked, boutiques/independent designers that we feel have their unique style sense, quality and pricing. We have a process by which we select them. So users can rest assured the items are of top quality and worth the money.

Collaborative Fashion is bound to come to India sometime or the other. Instead of waiting till then, we decided to go for it now and set the trend. If it works, well and good for all of us. If not, at least I can sleep in peace not wondering, “What if”….We are just focusing on executing to our best capacity with special attention to customer experience

We need a local CTO who can meet us F2F atleast 2-3 times a week and handle the technical team here. I want to focus more on the business and marketing front now.

    Thank you once again

  5. Good luck with the venture. I have seen some initiatives and see people excited for same too.

On technology, Magento is not my cup of tea. Not a big fan of Magento. Very tightly knit architecture, only suitable for out of box portals. Hard to customize.

Been playing around with PIM (Akeneo) and Drupal Commerce Marketplace however. Usually in theory a marketplace differs from basic Ecommerce portals in ability of creating different stores (of vendors) and different payment/shipping methods (Chained, Multiple vendors etc.). Rest all is pretty much same (unless you’ve a tedious order fulfilment process, which I believe would not be a case for startup)

Good luck with the portal. Do keep us informed.

  6. Hey Gaurav,

The attention and response however encouraging, we are quite grounded. We do realize all this can go in a split second if we do not execute the right way. We are just a bunch of positive people going with the flow and taking it as it comes.

Have a team that has quite a bit of experience in Magento and myself worked with it, which is why we went for it. And what we are doing is not that complicated if you look at it.

Will surely keep you informed and thank you for the wishes.
