I sat through an Amazon presentation of their ‘Appstore’ for ANDROID and I was STUNNED…
Amazon is treating APPS just like any other digital product that they sell, and iit s making the Android Apps available to ALL its consumers via a simple Amazon Appstore that you install on your (Android) phone.
This is what made me started drooling as I sat and watched the presentation:
– Amazon gets 284 MILLION Unique Visitors to its site (June 11 comScore data) each month (that’s 1 out of 4 people on the web)!
– Amazon shows apps just like any other product on its website.
– Search on Amazon ( 280 MILLION in May 10 as per comScore – must be 300+) now includes search for Apps!
– Even if you search for say Mobile Phones, depending on what you looked for – Amazon will promote apps to you.
– The INTELLIGENCE and RECOMMENDATION ENGINE of Amazon (which is what made it so effective in the first place) is going to go FULL BLAST to SELL APPS
So imagine if you bought a microwave from Amazon. The next time you visit, Amazon will suggest that you buy and download a COOKING APP for Microwaves!!
– The FREE APP of the day is a stunning feature – like all good ‘shops’, an app originally PAID app will be given away for free everyday! That will bring back MILLIONS OF BARGAIN HUNTER CONSUMERS every day to the site and also makes Amazon.com the No 1 destination for ‘App buying’
– The TEST DRIVE feature allows you to TEST an app BEFORE you buy it!!!
– And the KILLER was the multi device enabler:
So if you bought say an Angry Birds app from Amazon for your HTC phone and later logged into your Amazon App store from your Samsung Tablet – Amazon allows you to INSTALL THE TABLET version of the same Angry Birds app you just bought – now unto your tablet!!
I was just wondering and thinking – the BIGGEST new product ( after eggs and bread and milk) thats will sell in the millions every day will be mobile APPS and Amazon just had ALL OF THEM all for breakfast already!!

Just consider this killer move – as Smart Phones begin to proliferate the world ( GOOGLE announced yesterday that 1 MILLION Android enable phones are selling EVERY DAY) – Amazon will become the default market place (probably after Android Market Place) to SELL APPS!
With Billions of Phones and Zillions of Apps, AMAZON IS ON A ROCKET TO THE MOON!
Finally, check Market Caps of the players and figure the losers ( I don’t blame WalMart for not getting this right, but eBAY was just sleeping)…
