Why you should attend a Rodinhoods meetup ?

Yesterday, my wife went to watch YJHD while I went to the Rodinhoods meetup in Delhi, hosted by the gracious folks at 91Springboard. And it was worth every bit 🙂

Here are some reasons why you should try and attend every Rodinhoods meetup.

1.) Energy: Entrepreneurship is a lonely business, especially if you are a single founder and it can get pretty tiring mentally. When you are a meetup and see the enthusiasm and passion of other founders, the energy is almost infectious and goes a long way in recharging you. It almost acts as a validator that you are on the right path and didn’t do a stupid thing by jumping into the turbulent world of entrepreneurship 🙂

2.) Gets you out of your comfort zone: Yesterday, there was a presentation by Akshat Goel. He is a B.Com graduate who decided to get into the tech heavy business of online gaming. It was his first presentation and he was understandably nervous with speaking publicly. However, the next time he goes to make a presentation to a client, am sure his presentation will be much better. 

3.) Meet interesting people: Met a very interesting guy called Jasveer Singh. He is very passionate about entrepreneurship and I offered him a lift back to Gurgaon. On the way back, he told me his very fascinating story of how he quit his job and moved to Gurgaon, spotted an opportunity in the Guest House business and started in January this year. He first started with a 30 room property and in two months added another 40 property within 3 months and is cash positive to an extent that will give many businesses a run for their money. The simplicity of his operations is amazing and what is even more interesting is the reason for him starting this business.

Its to generate cash flows so that he can fund an Ecommerce venture which he has been planning all along. Awesome stuff of grit and determination.

4.) Learn something new: Every meetup has a theme and the topic for yesterday’s meetup was “How to effectively hire talent for your startup”. The insights from various startup founders was quite interesting but its the Q&A which follows every presentation, which is really the icing on the cake. E.g. Amit Mishra shared a ‘best practice’ followed by a prominent IT company on the way it does its appraisals. The top performers are appraised every 6 months, the good ones every year and the under performers every two years. It generated a bit of debate and I guess the jury is still out on whether its effective but it seems like it works for the company.

These are just some of the reasons and am sure others can add a lot more. So yes, whether you are a student, aspiring entrepreneur, early stage entrepreneur, advisor, etc etc, do try and make it. It will be worth it.

If Amit Mishra can make it from Noida with a broken hand, what’s your excuse ?

Of course all of this would probably not have been possible without Anamika and Tarun’s endeavour in organizing and promoting these events. Thank you guys 🙂

    right now i’m E for Emotional, so i won’t say much.

    i have a half written post on last month’s meetup in my drafts – which i haven’t finished for some stupid reason.

    you’ve inspired me to finish it. ‘coz in your busy world if you can find the time to write this – so can i 🙂

    p.s: someone pls tell jasveer i’m very keen to hear about his guest house business…. will hunt him down!!!

  2. Abhik Bhai…. Have Lived, Seen, Stored many of these Inspiring Incidents in my 1440 grms Bheja……..

    And still I keep chasing many of them to improve my perspective of Life.

    I have been a Regular at All Rodinhood Meets in Delhi……. and was feeling guilty of not being able to attend this one due to some work.

    But now again your Question “what’s your excuse ?”” has left me asking myself “What was mine” And the Answer is…. no Excuse is justified to miss an Energy Filled event like this.

    Waiting to meet Jasveer Singh…..  All said and Done….. “Simplicity is the way to go” and best part is that it’s “Simple”

  3. Abhik… I have no words… I just read it twice and was amazed coz it’s for the first time someone else wrote something about a Delhi meet-up. I cant explain to you how good it feels. And after reading, everything we do seem to be worth doing.. i am so so glad you have explained some points with so much simplicity that others are going to have a pretty good idea about why they should have been there.. or why they shouldn’t miss the coming meet-ups 🙂

  5. I have just joined Rodinhood and yesterday it was my first Rodinhood meet and it was really awesome.

    The sharing of ideas, meeting interesting people, networking, and rightly added by Abhik, getting out of your comfort zone. You do not get all of them at one time and the meet was also very structured, well organized and time bounded.

    Looking for much more ahead………………………..

  7. Hey Abhik and Rodinhoods

    Thanks for mentioning me in the blog. It was my first rodinhood meetup and my first presentation too  so it was very crappy and I have made the PPT so casually that haven’t even checked the spellings:P and I don’t have any experience in public speaking too.

    But above all that the community is very supportive and awesome.Talked so many like minded people was really a great experience and I am not gonna miss any of them in future.

    First of all Thank you Abhik to share our wonderful conversation.

    Around one and half  hour talking on the way i enjoyed each and every moment talking to you, apart from all that while discussing I have got some idea How to com out of my problem

    It was my 1st Roodinhood meetup and i would say just one word ‘wonderful’

    Abhik i read every points very interesting but 1st point ENERGY i read it thrice! and i love it! because:-

    when i quit my job

    Every day at night laying in bed thinking, Is this madness? Am i doing right think? Should be call and go for a job? and i had many- many such night. so if you are also suffering the same pain. If yes, Then Stop Thinking! Go meetup and spend  time talking to like mined people when you see other entrepreneurs Enthusiasm and passion. I am sure you will come out of this pain.

    that’s why i don’t call MEETUP, I call  Entrepreneurs RECHARGE POINT. 🙂
