I had some pathetic but interesting experience will Dell recently.
I ordered a Dell laptop from Dell website a couple of day back. Dell does not sell it’s laptop online directly to customers but they have outsourced the process to a local company named CompuIndia.
The interesting part is that the laptops with same configuration are priced differently at both websites.
I was promised 2 days delivery. While tracking my shipment I came to know that they shipped my Rs 35,000 laptop through regular post. And that is what happened after that. My laptop is roaming all around the country ! –
I am still to receive my laptop after 9 days. It was much easier to go to nearest laptop shop and pick one.
Be careful when ordering something online. If you are buying one from even a well known store ask them how they are shipping it. The e-commerce sites are running in ‘cost cutting’ mode now-a-days.
And sincere advise if you are daring enough to buy a Dell don’t buy from their site.

My Dell Laptop was a perfect purchase with 1 year warranty and next business day door step service from a dell showroom.
Here is what happened after the purchase: The lapatop arrives by registered post at my house from their godown with a separate octroi invoice. All good so far.
6 months later, mother board crashes. next business day service becomes a promise to service within one month. Repeated calls to the call center and Dell head office – further promises. Finally took down their center address in Andheri and lugged the laptop from ghatopar to andheri. Replaced the motherboard and rigged the camera to stop working! Service covered in warranty. Please note “warranty” is a keyword at Dell. The laptop motherboard crashes again 6 months later. Next business day becomes promise and forget now. Andheri refuses to solve the problem without holding the laptop with them for one month and waiting for some part that arrives just like how Ashwani’s laptop is travelling! Lugged the laptop to Bangalore…ooops your laptop just went out of warranty! please buy or else we will hold the laptop for a month, charge you for the parts and wait until eternity.
This particular model Insprion 14R does not come with a accidental warranty. Had 8 motherboard changes on this brand new Dell Laptop in 2 years and bought three warranties which are forced upon you. However, after all this they still believe that the product is not defective!!
