How I made a joke of myself while trying to ‘impress’ Alok sir

The more I am trying to figure out ways to create buzz and approach the kind of people I want to’ target’ the better  I am understanding that this is not easy for ‘just an individual ’ like me .Unless you have a proper network or may be a enough money and a smart team , these things are not easy . Ofcourse if I had  a pot of ‘Amrit’ with me then people would come running to me on just  hearing about it , alas I dont have that . But still , I believe that what I have to offer can have a major impact on our ‘internet habits’ but only if I can practically implement my marketing plan .

Now I  wanted to get the views of some expert and experienced person who can find faults and help in optimizing everything . I wanted to send a mail to Alok sir but  I also wanted to ensure it 100% that he reads it and not just read it but also reply to it . After all who knows if he takes interest ten percent problems will automatically solve but then he is an active supporter of entrepreneurship so he might be receiving many-many mails from people like me .  I was desperate to find out a way to reach him and then i read this tweet .

I quickly found out what pro-bono means ‘free professional work done for public good  ‘ I  was super excited , for me it was a ‘signal from god’ that this is your opportunity , grab it if you can, I thought he must have tried very very hard to understand it but couldn’t so he tweeted like that ,  I took it like  a  contest that I had to win .

I read the article it talked about a lot of complicated physics stuff  , I knew it was going to take me time to understand all this and there  are other ‘contenders’ to beat I kept checking twitter if someone has replied yet or not . I read the article multiple times searched on net for almost the whole night and the next morning about 9 AM I was able to understand it enough to  write a proper  reply to his tweet and also my ‘demands ‘.

He was courteous enough to reply  but I didn’t ‘feel ‘ like the winner of a ‘very prestigious contest’ there was something wrong I replied with the amount of hard work I did in writing that … there was no reply this time ,  I thought may  be I should make it a bit interesting by adding some images and let him know  again , but then i thought that he might block me if I irritate him too much so I decided to take a nap calm my self a bit and then ‘plan’ again  .

When I woke up the situation was entirely different the excitement was gone , I saw a group of God’s with lavish robes ornaments and jeweled crowns sitting and laughing in my room , making fun of me then one of them said “you idiot that was just a joke he cracked he isnt aspiring to be a physist what a fool u are ”  then another one said “and you also told him that you  took 12 hrs to write it , He and Asha and everyone in their office are laughing at you ” .  I asked them why did they  not tell me all this before ?? They loudly laughed again and vanished. I remembered the interview scene  from Fun with Dick and Jane  and felt like being Dick Harper . So it  turns out that  there was no contest to be won I felt cheated by God but then the old saintly soul of the universe appeared and said dont worry there is a lesson in it for you .I replied this is what you say every time something goes wrong . He replied “and I am always right in the end” , I nodded in acknowledgement and he vanished.

Now it has been a couple of weeks  since then , I realize it was a small thing nothing to worry about and he will hopefully read my mail and that too with a smile.   I also realize that I take silly decisions when I am very excited, as  I begin my entrepreneurial  journey there will be a lot more anxious moments things might not work as expected  so I realize that I should be able to foresee situations as much as practically possible keep alternate plans ready and have someone to fall back on when my intellect and logic and everything fails  . And what I want to ask here is that what is the best way to go when you can’t decide what is right and what is wrong ?? Should I not  take any action when I am in a super excited state ?? But then wont I lose opportunities ?? Hoping to get some celerity from the rodinhoods .

    i even remember reading adit gupta’s article in response to this – https://functionspace.org/articles/14 with my mouth open! (still didn’t make sense to me but i was never great at physics!!!)

    to clarify – NO ONE LAUGHED AT YOU AT OFFICE. i don’t even sit at OFFICE!!!!! i live in goa and as far as i know alok – he’d NEVER LAUGH AT ANYONE WHO MADE THE EFFORT TO WRITE SOMETHING FOR 12 HOURS!!!

    • Adit Gupta Thanks for the pointer Abhinav. currently, i am sweating out at Mumbai Central waiting for my train. It seems that the whole experiment is based on Quantum gravity. that being said, i think that they have published this article prematurely as quantum gravity itself is on shaky grounds. I’ll get back with the explanation as soon as i reach my destination

    • Kamal Krishna You could read Bill Bryson’s “A short history of nearly everything”. Explains quantum physics/dynamics really simply and well, amongst many other things. An excellent read and a great investment in knowledge.

    • Anand Vasudevan As Adit Gupta points out above, this is yet another sensationalized article (like much of science reporting.)

      First generation modern physics is Special Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. It is solidly established with some experimental proof, e.g. the Michelson-Morley experiment.

      Second generation modern physics is General relativity. Highly theoretical with no easy experimental proof.

      Third generation is Quantum Gravity and String Theory. Cutting edge speculative research and purely theoretical. This article is about a proposed experiment, which if it gets off the ground (literally and figuratively,) will provide some experimental proof of some aspects of Quantum Gravity.

    I agree to one of the following readers…It sounds more like “Big Bang Theory” and also to add it was a lovely read too 🙂 . 

    Now, to answer your question… (purely my opinion)..I have lived outside India for about 8 years + and naturally there I have witnessed a more organised or rather a different approach to working than in India. So, whole delay process at work or applying for new jobs an all at times gets me into a “super excited state” and guess what at times I hate it because the process is very tiring. You have frequent rush of thoughts…all good + bad and what not and in the end I keep on asking “God” or myself…” why there is no reply????” 

    But, there is a solution to get hold of this excited state of your…(works for me 🙂 ) Take a deep breath…and get away from the place where you are sitting and working (i.e. the position where you are physically seated and witnessing the whole feeling). Then…settle yourself in an area where there is fresh air or anywhere which is cooler, now write down both good and bad outcomes of your reaction in the existing excited state (and be true to yourself in writing, don’t judge yourself). After this exercise, keep that notepad away for few minutes…Have something to drink (i.e. a glass of water/tea/coffee/juice..etc). 

    And, then come back to it after a good 7-10mins, you shall see it for yourself that you would be able to recognise the right action to take. About losing your opportunity..NO you don’t rather you avail it giving your “Best Shot” in a cool and carm mind. 

    In the end you are meant to give your best to any opportunity that you see and leave rest on God :)!
