Is there something wrong with me, I never nominate ourselves for awards

Somehow it never excites me, there were many many opportunities where people came in, requested/forced us to nominate (also showed positive signals that we might win as well) but still it wasn’t exciting. I will rather consider https://twitter.com/#!/annkur/status/146463307677696000 and https://www.facebook.com/rodinhood/posts/132815363496453 to my awards last week.

Is there something wrong with me? I know these awards help in some way of the other but somehow it is not exciting (May be because they never listen to the real work we do, they give you awards for your surface not the core, at core we are amazing but at surface, we still are kids).

  1. 🙂 Conclusion is “I am ok, there is nothing wrong with me. I was made to feel as if there is something wrong with me”

(Conclusion from Alok’s post: Awards are for the weak and courageless. Dont even waste a minute on them.)

  2. However recognition is a conversion factor in sales.  If you can get a few awards without too much effort go for it.  Esp if you are enterprise facing.  When they can’t decide between two companies they’ll usually lean towards the flashier more famous one.  Old school tech insight: Nobody got fired for buying IBM.  Of course you can get serious about it and appoint an CAAO – Chief Award Acquisition Officer.

  3. heee heee CAAO is a cool designation ….. next april fool day,I might post this on naukri.com 🙂

On a serious node, Awards are not bad but the process of award selection is somehow too surface level … I think I am not yet prepared for it …

  4. u dont nominate yourself for the nobel prize.

this post is not about kids.

  5. You have to look at it as another sales pitch.  Don’t bleed for it.  And it only makes sense if you are losing business to swankier competitors.  Typically they’ll be charging 10x more and doing 1/4 of what you do.

  6. oh you are really bleeding it seems, but Abey has some great suggestion no jokes apart,

Awards are good enough for those 2 min you spend receiving them on podium , but yes if its giving that milage  for your company then why not they should be good marketing tool
