Interviews

Meet Khusbu Kariwala – the Biotechnologist who doesn’t like to be taken for granted!!

What exactly do you do? Simple and non complicated.

Study … how complicated a human body and its DNA is and how technology can be used to resolve this complication and make a better future for all of us!

Basically, study Biotechnology!

Why do you do what you do? Is it to make money, to become famous, to retire, to kill boredom, WHAT?

I do it because I have always been mesmerized by the potential that this field has in creating new ideas and products. All we have to do us use our imagination. And off course, to make money out of it! 🙂

Is there anything unique in what you do?  And here ‘unique’ can mean anything – doing what’s been done for donkeys years and yet in a more cost efficient manner, or something new in a boring business or line or simply inventing something completely new?

Biotechnology itself is a very unique field. It involves the usage of biological things to make something totally new which has a wide application. The various technological advancements that have already taken place in this field give us the opportunity to think out of the box and create a valuable future for all of us. So if being a part of such a dynamic field can be considered as unique then yes, studying Biotechnology is a `unique’ thing that I do.

Personally, I would like to open up a genetic counseling centre in India, which would provide with all the facilities involved such as diagnosis, testing, management and counseling for genetic diseases!

What happens if this fails?

Ideas never fail. What fails is one’s determination! You have to keep learning from your mistakes.

What’s gets you most irritated? And what makes you most happy? (mention anything – private, personal, confidential, if you committed a murder and are felling guilty about it or just what you wanna)

I get most irritated when people start taking me for granted. It brings out the worst in me!

There are many things which make me happy. Even the smallest of things like sipping hot coffee and enjoying the rains (Mumbai rains) from my balcony or simply listening to one of my favorite songs after a long time on the radio can bring a smile on my face!

Famous last words – if you knew you are going to be hit by a truck tomorrow, what would you like to tell the world (other than crossing the road safely)?

You saw it! Life’s too short…so make LIVING LIFE as your PASSION and see how wonderful this world is!
