Need opinions about new business

I want to try something new and thus would like to ask the opinion of members on this website.

Business Idea

The idea is to ask school/college students to write essays/articles on provided topics and then sell them to online marketplaces or different websites. I am planning to start this at Lucknow. I am ready to arrange coaching for these students for free so that they can learn basics of writing. It will help them to understand the writing style which is in demand.

Pros

1) It is unique. No one is doing such a thing as per my knowledge.

2) There is demand for articles. I know a lot of sources where the article can be sold.

Cons

1) Good students are busy studying. It is hard to convince them to work for money (Rs 1000-2000 for 1 hour of daily work).

2)Do not have any big brand name. Trust will be a issue.

What do you guys think about this business idea ?

  1. hi krishna,

i’m a little confused about what you propose. are you saying, you want to train students to become content creators? students nowadays are very sharp and blog-savvy. if they have the ability to write – they automatically start blogging!

what kind of websites are you planning to sell these essays & articles? youngsters related? pls give us a few examples so we get a better idea. and can give you feedback accordingly.

we have quite a few rodinhooders into the business of creating content – i suggest you also reach out to them to bounce and seek their opinion as well.

now, i’ve heard a lot of people complaining there is a dirth of good content writers.

and on the other hand i’ve also heard of content writers not getting enough assignments to keep themselves afloat.

recently someone mentioned to me that they had a content writer (some student) who was happy to write content for 5k a month. i was horrified. and then was told it wasn’t really “quality content”.

i think you first need to figure out what you want to achieve. and where you fit in. there is definitely a gap between content seekers and creators.

  2. Hey Krishna,

First thing that came to my mind, is the exact point outlined by Asha, if someone is good at writing he/she will blog on their own to market their content. And, if you are looking to train people(who are not good at writing) into becoming content creators then that’s a completely different business you are talking about!.:)

  3. My target are those students who do not about blogging or content writing. There are many students who are good at writing essays or general communication but do not have any idea about monetizing it. Training noobs is also possible but it will be hard to convince them to pay for training. They will instead spend money on coaching for studies as this is what parents want them to do.

  4. The second link you gave was very helpful for me. Thanks for the help.
