Snap Deal launches ‘Search’. I search for SEX TOYS. Result is Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged!!!

I got this amazing mail from Snapdeal, telling me that their Search function had launched, and I could …….. well just check out their promise:

Now, you know me.

I’m Rodinhood.

So, I went to Snapdeal and searched for SEX TOYS.

I mean, if you ask me to search for what I want, then I will search for ‘whatever’ I want!

Lo and behold, this is the result I got!!

Ayn Rand’s book ATLAS SHRUGGED is a Sex Toy?

The book Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus is also a Sex Toy?

hmmmmmm….really?

Now either I’m living on Planet Xanadu (oops I’m from Mars) or Snapdeal really needs some lessons in what Men and Women do behind close doors. (beyond reading Atlas Shrugged).

I give up.

I shrug my shoulders.

why are you searching “sex toys” in “Books & Movies”???

If you had searched in all categories and not only books & movies.. you’d have found a “Lavish de Salon (Unisex)” too.. 😛

Well I thunk they are not using any search index (like solr or something) and are directly fetching from DB the items with word “Sex” and “toys” in it..
And if they are infact using something like solr.. they should work on their boost formula..

They will learn n grow.. give them time..

and the reason why “Atlas shrugged” appeared in the result is because of this line in its description.. “In this novel she dramatizes her unique philosophy through an intellectual mystery story that integrates ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, politics, economics, and sex. “

They are definitely using simple DB query for searching 😐

Earlier they screwed up with their Android app.. and now with search too..

you see they have already mentioned – ‘your search ends here’…whatever you search here, the results will make you stop believing in the term ‘search’ on net. – So literally it’s like ‘your habit of searching ends with us’ 😉

They are sending parameter using POST request instead. Although I’m not sure.. but I guess analytics must be capable of recording it..
BUT at the user’s side.. if there’s no parameter in the URL he can’t book mark his searches after narrowing down.. neither he can share the results with anyone else.. #FAIL

Bhaiya search chale to chale, nai to button hi hata de!

searched for Dominos and found evertthing toys, shoes, jewelry, books, clothes, eyegear and …!!!! But didn’t find Dominos!

Thank God! I can talk in Matra bhasha as well…!

and for the Pizza … Nah! it shows pizza’s but with Tattoos and DVD’s! Lol! Snapdeal amuses me!
