This is all over the web, so most of you might have read it.

But if you have not I suggest read it. Quite an interesting take on doing search engine optimization SEO 🙂

  1. In my past 8 years of experience with search engines, I have seen plenty of such players. From 2004 we were ranking for some highly searched and valuable keywords like debt consolidation, mortgage etc, we were top (#1 spot) for years, we could see that there is a new player, who comes up and manipulates the system and ranks really well for few weeks (sometimes few months) and then is nowhere to found. We only had one hit, 2003 florida update (the most famous one), then we decided not to worry about search engine algorithsm and loopholes, just work on basics, make the site useful and things will fall in place. now its the 6th year running and maintaining the ranking in top 3 is something that is really cool. Best SEO is not the one that makes you to number #1 spot but the one that can help you stay there :).

  2. If you believe that making a good product equals job done then yeah ignore SEO or other forms of marketing.

If you believe that you have to get the word out well then you need to employ all possible approaches including SEO. IF done right the benefits are huge.

Don’t have no 8 years of experience with SEO, but built a fresh site and got over 200,000 visitors a month consistently for the targeted set of keywords. That’s worth $10,000 in advertising monthly.

For another smaller site (a local dance institute) I get them about 20 targeted visitors a day for salsa classes and they claim they fill at least one batch every month through the people who visit their site.

I could of course go on. But you get the drift.

So i am personally a big fan of SEO and sell my seo skills to who ever is willing to hire 🙂

And for what ever it is worth I thought that guy (the story i put the link to) had quite a nerve and for Google to acknowledge that he had gamed their system was quite a thing 🙂

I am sure I am going to try and get some links from getsatisfaction the next time 🙂

  3. Neither being over obsesses with SEO is good nor is ignoring it. It is about having the right mix, focus on:

P for Product (Website + Your product + Your services)
P for Promotion (SEO + PPC + Social Media etc etc)

Both compliments each other, they don’t fight with each other 🙂 …
