The discovery of relevant startup meetings in your city without getting Spammed

Hi All,

This is my tryst with posting on The Rodinhoods, a community where I have been ‘actively’ consuming as a passive reader so far.

I wanted to share a social experiment that I have undertaken to solve two pain points I have felt:

a) Discovering good entrepreneurship/startup events in a city where you travel OR your own city without the hassles of browsing 10 event listing websites or signing up to flood your inbox (On Demand Content)

b) Reaching out to the ‘interested/relevant’ audience in a spam free way as an entrepreneurship/startup enabler that organises such meetings.

The deck below suggests an approach using a simple feature on facebook.

I soft launched this with a friend at Barcamp Mumbai and Hackers & Founders Mumbai to get a dipstick if this pain point exists beyond the boundaries of my head. The feedback was promising and a few volunteers also signed up for this initiative. For similar reasons, I am bouncing this off this forum. 9Just FYI: This is meant to be an open source community driven initiative)

Action Items:

a) If this makes sense and you like it, do join the Mumbai Group and invite your friend
ELSE critique it and share your inputs

b) Write to me if you’d like to curate/volunteer to share events from Rodinhoods and otherwise.

Cheers!

  1. Yatin: Yes, I’ve tried meetup and several other such sites. They work brilliant and are meant for this purpose exactly, but there is no website that serves as the greatest common denominator engage such a community which is where lies the power of FB. The effort to sign on in a FB group from within FB (where you spend time daily)  is much trivial as compared to visiting another website and signing up (in spite of a social sign on).

I think meetup has some FB app though, not explored using that from within FB. Have you tried that?
