The Stained Glass

A two hundred old, medieval Church in the centre of the old town, had recently been restored and opened to the public. The Church was the talk of the world because it housed some of the most famous stained glass paintings of the world. Some of the paintings were rumoured to be magical too. One large stained glass that showed a mother and child could supposedly bless childless couples with a baby if they stared at the painting for long.

The monks from the Monastery visited the Church a few times and were awestruck by its beauty and its stained glass art. They pleaded Sensei and Head Monk to visit the Church with them.

Last evening after dinner, Sensei surprised the monks by announcing that they all were going to the Church with him, that very moment. The night was coal dark and cloudy. The monks had to use torches to walk inside the Church once they were there.

After everyone had settled down on the pews, Sensei asked the monks to look around and appreciate the stained glass paintings. No one could see anything. Sensei asked to see the painting of the mother and child, but none of the monks could point out the painting to him. After a while, everyone returned to the Monastery.

This morning, after humming meditation, Sensei addressed everyone and said, “The Sun is what makes the Church and the stained glass beautiful. Without natural light, there is no beauty left. The stained glass is nothing but an artistic expression of the sun. Likewise, in life, always pay attention to who makes you beautiful. And remember to silently thank them even if you take them for granted.”
