Your idea for a Social App? An open challenge!

At Games2win, we entertain almost 200,000 people everyday across our 30+ Game Apps (Search for Games2win on iTunes, Android, Windows, Kindle). We are growing 10-20% month on month.

The challenge is that these 200k people don’t interact with each other.

I call this the ‘darkness’ problem. It’s like we own a football stadium packed with people but with the lights off. So, people come and go and don’t interact amongst themselves.

What can we do WITHIN our mobile games that takes the level of engagement of our users to another level? What is the service or offering we can provide them? It could be anything and not related to gaming!

That is the open challenge I want to throw open and invite suggestions, ideas, concepts and of course talent!

Winners can get employed by us ; we can acquire apps / social engagement platforms that have great response BUT LESS USERS etc.

What we have

200,000 visitors per 24 hours across USA, UK, BRIC and 50 other countries, growing very fast!

What we want

Is an App Idea that can be something to do with dating, chatting, engaging, location based ideas, ANYTHING!

This is a great opportunity for entrepreneurs who always had great consumer app ideas but no way to start! Write to me asap!

  1. Bouncing off some thoughts that explore location-based services:

    Like destination discovery?

Every gamer might know of some destinations around his location. How about leveraging their local expertise and helping their fellows out? Like some people use twitter to find out more about certain places they are visiting (for e.g. best restaurant in Pune).

    Like stuff to buy/sell?

Every user can have a list of items he wants to sell, buy, give away for free, a wishlist of sorts. Other users can look around and see if something they are looking for is available in their vicinity. Provide a chat medium (something that Quikr has come up with) and allow them to negotiate a deal that works best for them.

  2. Being an Avid Gamer myself and experience as a Game Tester for some time earlier, been part of a lot of Games Beta tests for game functionalities and Bug testing before release for the general player community on closed Beta and to give feedback for other aesthetics and suggestions to make the Enrichment level of the game higher to improve.

What I found as making any Game addictive is the INTERAction within the players as Team players for In-Game articles, which could be Upgrades, Level up points, some articles which are otherwise better but not available any way else, defeat a higher Level BOSS, or simply to gain extra fast levelling speed with a Team with higher levelled (limited with a certain range of levels maybe like ±10) so all those participants gain a part of the achievement  points shared as per their level range so lower levels get more points and as the levels go higher the points are reduced accordingly too, which can be only obtained when they have Friends (Team play) so if there is a certain Upgrade which is required some games use the Ask your friends strategy where they invite friends to play that game (if not playing already) and then assist them for the certain tokens required to Level up or achieve the target.

This can also be used for some other reasons  within the game in particular where they are part of a GUILD or Clan and that needs to be levelled so that certain requirements could be completed and all clan members benefit from the total efforts of the ratio in which each member participates with relevant points, gifts, articles etc otherwise unavailable or open up new options not otherwise available in the normal game course like private or secret levels for more of the required fun and collection of  Exclusive Wares (Ingame) which again could be used only in the game with no real life value too and some of them could be exchanged if there are a certain series of articles collectively required for any Quest, or level to be completed for the NPC  (non Playing Characters) to be submitted too and other objects or in game currency could be used for this exchange as well or a barter for  other things which anyone has spare to be used too giving it a more interaction value that ways with even unknown other players and making new friends within the Clan members and adding participation value too. This also inhibits ingame sales for things which could  be used to get the items while completing it which helps boost the addiction level and sales value too with no further advertising costs involved as well and also gathers actual Player traffic to spread the word around and make  it rise the Levels in the game World.

Had a lot of FIRSTS to my credit similarly with extending Guidance for the Quests to be completed and articles required to complete and their sources helps  with interaction and completing to also know who all are doing it or who have done it and keep it real time updated as well, so others can refer that as a Knowledge pool and get connected as well. In game chat functionality for One on One chats, Team Chat, Guild chats and so on, maybe a World Announcement (could be charged in game currency, which could be facilitated to boost ingame currency buy options) makes it easier to use than doing it the other generic ways of offline modes for the purpose in general that people use apart from the Game forums threads and using their own social media channels within their friend networks.

When these things are planned you also would need to keep a check for the (BOTS – auto bots non  human programs playing character ids) to collect items or sell trash items for in game currency and make a separate Pvt market for the Players to earn in real world money to achieve this thereby leaving the game Producers  high and dry out of the deals in any ways and clog the Game servers too. Game Mods (GM’s) need to check this or some auto functionality inbuilt too. Not sure design wise what all is possible in any of  your existing or under development games but just thought would pen down my thoughts if it helps 🙂 Though this works well for MMORPG’s or MORPG’s for others it may also be a nuisance where friends are receiving requests and get Bugged too 😛 Those on  Facebook should know this by now 😉

Used to Design and suggest elements for game Sprites  and other ingame artifacts etc as per the theme and retouch BG and Sound scores too, with Personalised game based Signatures for use in their  Game Forums or as Mail Signatures as felt fit too 😉 My own which was  used long time back with the Virtual nickname which Got Stuck too more known than the real one  (till date some know me and refer also, as the virtual name too – Dare~, Dare2Bare™ Always) The tagline – Dare~ is the Name of the Game, Just Do it!

  3. Amit –  your mail id?

  4. Darshan,

The challenge with games is that the 30 day retention is always in the 10% range. No matter what you do.

Engagement within a game drives consumer revenues, etc but the 90% is what I want to hold back…

  5. The comparison with football stadium is awesome. If we start thinking like this – a dark stadium, millions of people are present – all are silent. Suddenly someone switches the floodlights on. What will happen? How will I respond?

    1. I will try to find known faces around me, if I find any would should in joy!
    2. If I do not find any known face, I would keep quiet but would like to listen to what others are saying.
    3. If I do not like the topics people around me are discussing, I would check with other groups around.
    4. If I sell books and there is a book lover, I would pitch them. And would try to find if more book lovers are there in the stadium
    5. If I do not feel like staying there at all – would walk towards EXIT. Whatever people are talking around would still reach me – I may or may not respond.

That said, what about bringing them closer by parameters like Location, Interests etc?

    A simple interface can be:

    1. Ask people to shout out with a hashtag that will be published from the game itself on their twitter profile (Challenge: not all of them have a twitter profile)
    2. Analyze the hashtags, track the users, their Geo, their interest – as much as possible
    3. When someone shouts “#hashtag I Love Coffee” – show them who else tweeted about Coffee – who are from their city etc.

The hashtag concept is applicable if Twitter is used as the platform; there can be other methods of capturing and tracking the information.

  6. Sent you an email.

  7. Chat rooms can be created with categories of the game.

Finding out people playing the same game along with you makes it more challenging.

Scores can be shared and challenges can be thrown to users.

If the opponent accepts your challenge, then game on !!!

Multiple users can be involved like an open challenge.

A player can see in real time what and how other player is playing using a toggle view.

This way a player can strategise and buckle up.

  8. awesome

  9. Sir dont make them interact each other…want them to play more and chat less 🙂

  10. Strangers will chat with each other only if there is some commonality. ..and casual games where involvement is less dont find any reason for them to chat.

  11. Check out this game !

    “clash of clans “

    https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/clash-of-clans/id529479190?mt=8

  12. a tie up with someone like ‘hike’ to build multiplayer games will surely increase the engagement and get you more users too.

    or

why not an in app point system which can be redeemed for some sort of a service.

  13. Each user can help others making purchase decisions, we all read reviews before buying any stuff (especially hard cats) let’s build an interface where one can ask like Hey I’m buying XYZ product how it is? or anything like Which laptop should I buy under (local currency) main usages is gaming/office work.

  14. Here’s an idea for a game:

    ‘The Ultimate Treasure Hunt’

    1. A treasure of Rs 1,000,000(for instance) for the first player who finds it.

    2. The treasure is located somewhere in the world (virtual)

    3. Every player is given a clue( say 100 different clues randomly given to 200,000 users)

    4. The game will be of different stages, passing each stage bring you closer to the treasure

    6. Each stage will comprise of a quiz or riddles which players can discuss with other players via a discussion board to pass the stage

    7. Players can exchange clues with other players upto a limited no. of times  but sometimes they might end up getting the clue they had in the first place.

    This is the basic idea….

  15. If you kindly invest I will write.

  16. A Cheer for  a Life/Level!

Gamer – “Ask for Cheers > Get CheerUp > Collection can earn a life/level”

How about having a something where a gamer can ask for cheers from other gamers playing across different games. A cheerup request might come up as small insert in other gamers console with an option to [cheerup/ not now /never].

There can be a defined points system within each game which will help gamer get some benefits. like for e.g. 100 cheerups = 1 life or some boost in game level. Also more you cheerup others, you earn some more benefits for yourself.

This idea comes from the candy crush like invites, but here its supporting each other reach to next levels in respective games or even earn a life. Keeping the insertions small & simple will be better to avoid any downfall in user experience.

  17. Why not.

    2win (twin) app .

    2win Family- twin family .

Hook up with a random pair across the globe and play your favourite games2win game and get featured on the hall of fame pairs …

Meet interesting people with same interests in games as yours within the frame of 2win games .

  18. Here are some random thoughts that i would like to see

    >How about AMA’s from random users (reddit >> ask me anything).

It can start with some basic questions that give an idea of profile followed by random stranger giving his perspective on questions.

They can be localized on geography so users have common points to discuss (other than just the game).
