Amazon Web Service(AWS) free tier

AWS provides free usage of their service for 12 months.

https://aws.amazon.com/free/

How can start ups take advantage of AWS’s free usage tier, to host websites and applications for 12 months?

Has anyone used the free tier who can share the experience?

Can any expert help to understand their terms and condition of their free usage?

Thanks in advance.

  1. I haven’t used it…But here is my 2 paisa.

It asks for your CC information..There are certain clauses which you need to read for the conditions where you will be *charged*..

  2. Free tier is not free at all for all resource, But if you want to just develop/build not so heavy app. You should go with it.

    1. You need credit card
    2. Amazon will verify your card by charging some USD1 and credit back. Still you will spend some $ to INR charge (negligible)

    3. Ensure you use what is allowed in free tier, for example, not all ec2 image are valid for free tier. If you use anything else which is not allowed in free tier, Amazon will charge your Credit card and inform you, they have charged for XYZ thing.

I would say AWS is not bad, but as a new user, you need to study it. What is free what is not free to avoid any unwanted charges.

  3. hi Sheth, Thank for the comment….I am just trying to understand What is free what is not free to avoid any unwanted charges, while testing the service.

  4. Amazon is many service and too much documentation. What you want to use? You want to use ec2, storage, db.

On a simple note, if you are using ec2 only some micro instance (low memory, low cpu) server is fall into free tier, (mostly 32-bit).

When you are going to use any of the resource from Amazon, it must have indicated this is avail for free tier. If that is explicitly not informed/mentioned, you will be charged.

As a beginner, you should mentally prepared you will be charged little!

  5. Hi Sheth, Thanks for the reply……we have developed eCommerce website, where there will be product images, texts, user information, transaction information etc….but we have each image of 5-10MB totaling almost 10GB of image data….What you will suggest…

  6. forget pricing, If your images are of 5-10 MB, What will be user experience when he/she will load your site.

  7. The images are optimized to lower size to load faster in the front end, but actual storage space of each image will be 5-10MB
