It is always good to see your thoughts getting converted into reality. Me too witnessing same thing in my life today, www.storybyreviews.com was a thought once upon a time in my mind now happy to see it as a reality.

 

You must be thinking what exactly is “StoryByReviews”?  Let me take you through to a small real life experience of my own. I am a Finance professional and so far sold my services to 4 companies in capacity of “Employee”. Each time when I was in the moment of decision to join this company or not, I felt a serious need of someone who could answer my few queries about the prospective employer. Like others, my queries were also like:

How is the general atmosphere at the work place?

How people grow in this company?

How is day to day life at work?

Is it common to work on weekends?

How is the overall work-life balance at this company?

Unfortunately, I never found such a person who could help me in getting answers to these queries. Of course I did lot of search on social media but all in vain.

In my search I did come across well know sites like Glassdoor etc. but somehow I was not able to draw any conclusion by looking at the rating points and diplomatic comments. Honestly, to some extent I got confused whether I should join or not? My Question still remained unanswered.

Then I thought let me find a solution for this problem and I started work to build Story By Reviews.  This portal lets people exchange reviews about their workplace to find a better workplace. 

The beauty of the portal is The Reviews (in Q&A form) reproduced exactly the way they were answered. This leaves no room for rating jargons. User may feel like his questions are getting precisely answered.

Referring to such reviews helps a lot to the people who are on a job hunt or who are scheduled for interviews. If they assess that people are happy at prospective employer’s workplace they will be motivated and will put extra efforts in their preparation. It can help people in their compensation negotiations as well. Users can send connect requests. These are few benefits from the consumer side.

Person who posts review on the site will get a customised report with his score of work-life balance. We also intend to share quality content on improving work life balance. In the future based on volumes we can run many analytics which can help users as well corporates since these reviews are real feedback from their ex or current human capital. We also take care of privacy of people who submit reviews to us and never show name as a matter of policy.

While building this portal I came across what I am doing is known as “Crowd-Sourcing” in internet business world. The power of crowd sourcing is enormous and the live example is the English dictionary which we use is based on crowd sourcing model only 🙂 🙂

It is my sincere request to all Rodinhooders please feedback me on this portal.

Also, don’t forget to tell your workplace story at StoryByReviews – you just need to answer a couple of questions.

    so i find the idea of having people share workplace stories and reviews at one place interesting.

    some candid q’s/feedback:

    – what will be your revenue model? 

    – if your reviews are posted anonymously, then how can i trust them? how do i know good reviews are not a plug by the company itself? how do i know bad reviews are not made by competition or disgruntled ex-employees who were fired for under performance (just an example) ?

    i visited your site briefly.

    – you need to add more on your about us page to make it credible. 

    – pls fix your branding – are you STORY BY REVIEWS (3 words) or storybyreviews (one word) 

    – who’s writing the blogs? right now you, i’m guessing???

    you need to mention the author’s name. or at least team storybyreviews if it’s you/your team.

    – pls get a content writer to help you – THE BLOGS NEED SERIOUS HELP 🙁 (that’s the politest i can be)

    jaivardhan, if stories are one of the main focus areas then you will really need to hire a good content person.

    suggestions if you are going to post about storybyreviews on other portals:

    i) pls go through other showcase posts on trh to get an idea.

    ii) after the background and telling us what the venture does, LIST your features and add screenshots of HOW IT WORKS. 

    iii) display a genuine review – would give everyone an idea and encourage some people to try it!!

    Glassdoor.com is a California based company and it operates into HR tech space (JOB Portals etc). This company also aggregate reviews about corporate work culture. This entity is funded by TigerGlobal.

    We are into direct competition with them as far aggregation of reviews is concerned.

    Extremely happy to receive your detailed feedback. Let me address your queries one by one.

    Revenue Model : Whole thing is dependent on Volume of reviews. Company specific report for individual can be generated from data and Analitics for corporates can also be generated these are few products.

    Review Quality: Each review undergo a audit before it get published on platform. Platform is open for all employees and it is practically very difficult to judge or get info about employee performance in any organisation, so, you have take info with pinch of salt. Or Extremely Bad and Extremely good reviews itself make user concious. except Google 🙂

    We debated a lot on matter of revealing the identity of reviewers but maximum people suggested revealing identity will not attract quantum since people do have fear of backfire. 

    I will definitely work on About us page. Point taken.

    Your absolutely write about blogs..these are written by me and I do agree content of blogs may not be so appealing. Will definitely work on blogs content and exploring option to hire professional content writer. This will fix this issue.

    You made very vital point regarding branding. I want it to be STORY BY REVIEWS. will make suitable changes.

    I had a look at your website and I don’t feel there is any difference with Glassdoor/Salary.com. It doesn’t matter where they are located as long as their services are international. I have used Glassdoor several times and found almost all companies in India being listed and reviewed there. I do not understand what you mean by they are into HR tech space? They do capture the company work culture pretty well.

    The UI needs a serious overhaul and the blog…well Asha ji is right.

    The existing players have the first mover advantage and soliciting reviews will be challenge. Good luck.

    My aim is to encourage people to share more and more reviews (in technical terms increase penetration) which my personal reading says is lacking.

    HR tech space means HR services offered through use of Internet and Technology.

    I would request pls revisit my site since I have incorporates lot of feedback driven changes. trust this time site’s UI will meet your expectation.

    It is really good to see that “Story By Reviews” is lucky enough to receive your kind attentionJ. Thank you for your time & feedback.

    I wish to revert on your queries in seriatim;

    1. My aim and attempt is to give a 360 degree review of a workplace from an Employees perspective. At the same time asking user to describe about workplace atmosphere is a very less attractive. In this I have made an attempt to gamify the process of feedback submission.  User needs to answer few small objective questions and user will receive his work-life balance score and a small report in response to his submission.

    In view of the importance of the information which a user may wish to have while analysing a company as his next employer the more and more details (Workplace, Worklife, Salary, L&D, Growth etc.) about employer become natural/essential requirement rather just few “Pros” & “Cons”. Hope I have your agreement on this. 🙂 

    It is my sincere requests to you please search about Tata Consultancy Services Ltd or PWC on my site and just have a practical walk through about what I am trying to explain above. Once you will see this demo I am definitely sure I may succeed in explaining you the whole concept and also why I am doing this.

    Data which I am collating through feedbacks has huge amount of saleable data implication, of course after a certain quantum.

    2. It is my personal study that current penetration from feedback quantum perspective is very low especially when it comes to Indian Corporate, hence, I want Story By Review to become platform which is more focused on Indian Corporate.

    I also believe that Innovation can disrupt settled practices.
