cost to create a social networking website

Hiya Rodinhooders,

Can you pls advice as in what would be the total cost(some figure) to create a website on the lines of FB, obviously not with so m any features but some basic features on the lines of “home”, friends, feeds from other frds etc. I know how much approx it takes to register a domain, but m not too sure about the storage needed in such social networkin sites, and im not a programmer so im not aware of what type of programming is needed and more important is to find out the right type of programmers…..

Pls HELP!!

if you are asking for a cost just to create a social media website, I’d say its almost nothing. Google for Free Social Media script and you’d find one for sure. Also you’d find couple of paid scripts and I suggest you go for the paid ones. It will help you on the long run where you have atleast someone responsible for hiccups along the way.

I think the main cost is not the money. The main cost is the time you need to put in. Yes you have a website but then what? You should have a sure shot strategy to make it popular and successful that way. That is the real cost I’d say.

Also make sure exactly what you wish to create and what is the outcome of this site in the long run?

If you wish to create community around something, going for forums should be the choice. Several free, professional scripts are available – such as vanillaforums.org Or, sites like therodinhoods can also be created by using ning.com platfom.

Again, creating sites are easy. Making them a success is the real work.

thanks Bhavesh for the feedback, i have a vague idea of combining social network with e-commerce and help ppl earn money through such platforms, i have not zeroed on the contents , have a fair idea on the lines of fb where you have tabs like buy, sell, consult, in a meeting with, etc. idea is to share with the world(or rather your own associates) what are u doin at work, more like a interactive community of specific businessess…..still thinking on it though…

the problem with ning is i want to put specific tabs like buy, sell, stocks, meeting, consult etc. which i dont find it , can you pls help
