Create Personal Website Using Linkedin in 10 Seconds With HearAbout.Me

Motivation:

It all started few months back when I wanted to create personal website for myself and to be frank I was too lazy to do it all from scratch. So, I googled around and found few sites those let me create personal website. Common thing about all of them was I spent lot of time in learning their editors only and still was not satisfied with results.

So, what exactly HearAbout.Me does ?

HearAbout.me enables you to quickly create personal website in less than 10 seconds using the information already present on your social media accounts like linkedin & facebook. We gather that information and present it in neat & clean personal website. Along with this, we create free subdomain for you that will have your personal website hosted. Not only this, an auto resume link is generated that you can share with anyone right away. All for free.

Okay sounds interesting, but why do I need personal website?

For Entrepreneurs:
Being an entrepreneur, it’s essential to have personal branding set up. People are going to google you when they will hear about your startup. Show them the cool and smarter side of you by having a personal website.

For Job Seekers :
56% of all hiring managers are more impressed by a candidate’s personal website than any other personal branding tool. Having a personal website is very essential as part of personal brand building.

“If you want to compete in the global talent pool, then you have to have your own website. People are already searching for you, or people like you, & every time your website doesn’t come up you lose an opportunity… Having your own website is the cost of remaining relevant & gaining visibility in today’s job market.” Dan Schawbel, New York Times best-selling author of ‘Promote Yourself’

For Every Professional:
Every professional should have their personal website. According to Google, 80% of people research others online before meeting them for the first time. That number jumps to 95% when talking about employers researching candidates. A beautifully-designed and well-written website gives you the best chance of making that crucial first impression a great one.

What makes HearAbout.Me stand out from others?

  1. hi ankita,

    I LOVE THE IDEA!

    nice, relevant and sticky name.

it’s solving a real problem. and reminding people they must have a website/blogsite! so kudos to you and your team (i’m presuming you are part of the co-founding team?)

the first 2 questions everyone is gonna ask – ARE YOU SURE IT TAKES JUST 10 SECONDS??

and IT’S FREE?! SO HOW DO YOU MAKE MONEY??!!

i went to your website. looks clean, uncomplicated and encouraging. i have only 2 suggestions – since you are apart of the hearabout.me team, your testimonial should not be there 🙂 it’s like alok or me writing a testimonial for trh!!! 🙂

good luck with this and more power to you!

  2. Thank you so much Asha for your valuable feedback.

Yes, I am part of co-founding team & currently we are team of 2. I will remove the testimonial by today itself.

  3. Interesting! I had registered on couple of similar sites few years ago. However, for some reason, I never went back to maintaining them…so eventually ended up deleting my accounts. I’m sure there are people who currently use such sites…would be interesting to see how this evolves in a world that is moving more towards mobile. I have a theory that search will not be the paradigm when it comes to mobile web.

On the other hand, if/when I need to look up someone, I usually end up glancing at a person’s linkedin, twitter, and may be facebook profile (if it’s public) to know about that person. I’m less concerned about their degrees/pedigree etc. but I’m more interested in how they think and behave on twitter etc.

    Good luck! 🙂

  4. True Rishi, I agree on world is moving towards mobile web and information will find you rather than you finding information.I think personal websites are not just about finding people. It’s about branding yourself, showing who you are, how you think, what you write in your personal blog.

Wouldn’t it save efforts of people searching for you if they know your personal website (provided it’s well maintained)?

  5. why you are putting a dependency on linked in. Please provide option to do it with google account or facebook.

When you said employers search on web to see how you behave in social medium why on earth anyone want to create a website to highlight there weakness ?

My take on this is don’t target the employer/employee community since hiring generally happens through consultancy only. Target small businesses who need an identity in internet world, they would like to create website that sells them.

  6. Thanks Anil for the suggestion. We will definitely work on this angle.

Regarding the facebook/google integration, there is not much useful information available via API to create personal website. That means user has to enter it manually. Whole catch here is to create website in 10 seconds.

  7. Sorry. Doesn’t work ( i have 700 lines of ‘scrap’)

  8. Oops. That’s embarrassing, sorry about that. I have got it fixed. Apparently there was a bug parsing scrap.

Link of your personal website : https://alokrodinhoodkejriwal.hearabout.me/

  9. It didnt work for me either.

Your idea is similar to what http://www.branded.me offers. They started a year back with a signup using linkedin and few months back linkedin blocked their API for getting the data users Linkedin account. What you are currently doing is scraping the data from linkedin users account. Hope its not unethical / illegal & wont affect you or your site.
