Does search engine’s 100 URL Link limit per page, still matter & why?

Over the years, I have often heard that a page shouldn’t have more then 100 links. Its been 15 yrs but still I see people and SEO audit tools talking about same limitation.

Hence, I would like to know how important it is specially with large ecommerce websites like flipkart, myntra or any other new ecommerce store.

Does this limit exist anymore since engines like Google have evolved over the years, with better indexing technology and smarter search results.

Couple of Questions that I have in mind and would like someone who is an expert and pro in SEO answer it.

  1. If this limit still matters, how does it effect your website ranking?
  2. How do you control it on large eCommerce website? What are your suggestions?
  3. If this doesn’t matter then, Why SEO audit tools still give importance to it?

  2. Hey Amit,

    Simple Answer is NO.

Detail: This doesn’t mean you each page of your site with every other pages. Interlinking should be structured & follow a hierarchy and you can show some links out of hierarchy links of your most popular products, recent products on pages.

  3. So Mansoor, I don’t understand why do some of the popular audit report websites like http://www.woorank.com etc still give importance to it.

I have notice other tools also giving them importance till date. Are these out dated tools. If yes then what are the latest tools and is there any FREE Tool as well!

  4. I wont say woorank is outdated but it’s not perfect to analyse website its all I can say.

You can use raventools , seoprofilers to analyse your website.

  5. Mansoor I looked at it, found it too complicated!

  6. Ashish, we are building a mobile version for one of our client. Hence tell me if product and pages url remains same on mobile and desktop version will Google consider it as duplicate data. If yes what is the solution.
