  3. Hi Sugandha

    To startup ..just start.

    Start by:

    1. being dead sure on what you want to do

    2. Read …read …read as much as possible on the industry ( net , newspaper….)

    3. Talk to friends and family – bounce your ideas and get their feedback- this will help you to get a lot of clarity on what you are doing. however stay away from ones who discourage you from starting up.

    4. Meet people who are working in the industry – they will give you first hand knowledge on the business

    5. Meet your prospective customers- talk to them and chk your idea with them , If they buy your idea they might/will buy your service/product.

SPEND AS MUCH TIME ON FIELD AS POSSIBLE. No better source of knowledge on business that doing this!

    Continuosuly perform this activity and

simulataneosuly start working on your business. Action/Execution gives you a kick and confidence which keeps you going!

There are multiple points to be considered
    1. Are you a good leader or a Manager? Please portray yourself only as a Leader and develop more leaders.
This will motivate you team. (Though internally you may also do good management / analysis).

People come to start ups for a different life and If you create a Corporate control environment then they are likely to go away.

    2. Please categorize Resources in various baskets, like those
    a) Who can be with you for few months / part time ?
    b) For a nearly an year or
    c) For a longer period

Please develop a methodology to develop the various teams and put efforts in the relevant directions

    3. Killer Instinct is a skill which needs to be developed and this skill varies under different environments / situations.

4 Attitude can be build only with patience and doing root cause analysis of why a particular person is behaving in a particular way.

  5. Some ideas for Resources for a ‘Start Up’. I am sure you might have thought this up already.

    1. Get a great team of self employed professionals to assist you, project by project. These people are not hard to find. In fact if you are in a start up business that requires a high degree of skill, I am sure that you already know these people. Treat them a co-creators of value. This helps you to get additional assignments, network with the industry, get talked about and associated with the experts.

    2. As you work with these experts, you might find a great co-creator who might want to join you in this venture.

    3. Share your idea with the young people who are learning a skill that is relevant for your start up. For example, if you are in a creative space, it may be a good idea to speak to students at an art college. They could join you on an assignment basis or on the basis of temporary jobs. You might find wonderful people who might want to join you after working with you for a few months.

    4. Look at alternate spaces for talent. For example, consider looking at the vast pool of talented english language teachers in our schools & colleges as possible copywriters. Sure they will need to be trained and coached; some might not have the intuition of a good wordsmith, but I am sure that there are many that will make the grade.

    5. Family and close friends. Get them involved. Ask them to help you with assignments or with key tasks. There might be a great business relationship lying unexplored with your friends & family.

One of the ways in which you get the right attitude, talent and highly motivated people for start ups, is when they truly believe in your idea and that path. Asking people to join your team on a project to project basis, allows you to ascertain if they are aligned to your thought and allows them to self select your start up as a place of work. As you start small with assignment led remuneration, you can afford them. And as they do well with you and get more assignments, they ‘buy into’ your vision.

This is not the only approach. This is another approach. The traditional routes also exist and should be definitely explored.

  6. Good resource is costly affair and that to finding it is even more time consuming

as a start up you have to choose them carefully bt at the end what matters is how can you convert the ‘avilable’ resource

on hand in a best possible manner. for that every thing matters with the leader is he that good enough to convert the

mediocre resouce in to good one

  7. getting highly motivated folks who have the killer instinct to succeed. is a Utopia Sugandha

dont want to discourage you but be sure you will come across many whos only concern is RKM-roti kapada makaan

(courtesy-Aby) the crawlers ….you need  to teach them flying , ..but you will find some guies who know flying

  8. Dont think it so , good resources are actually motivated in an entrepreneurial set up and hence ownership would motivate them to work for start up’s.You need to network well thru the ranks to get across such people.

Another tip , great resources work in groups, so you may find that if you get one , he may be able to build the complete organisation for you

  9. Alok got rid of this discussion too early

  10. Quick Tip: You may not get ‘people‘ to work with, if you keep looking for ‘resources‘.

  11. I work in a start up Insurance Broking firm floated by my ex-boss cum friend. Its been 1.5 years of bumpy ride and certainly not a comfortable one. I wouldn do this for anyone else but my friend in whom I believe. So I guess its important that your new employees know the real person you are, they have to respect your talent and believe in your ability to make it work. I guess you wont get good people through job portals and consultants at this stage as they would be strangers and they wont know the real you. Its best to rope in people you know or through recommendation and suggestions.

    GOOD LUCK

  12. Lol, no… look at the enthusiasts ! They nodded at Alok and said..”yeah right but I still need to add more ! “
