Introducing VoteGiri – Web Pe Charcha

What is VoteGiri?

VoteGiri™  is a platform for users to have online discussions and vote on things that matter to them. VoteGiri™ is a place for a conversation, not just among friends and family, but also among like-minded individuals who are passionate about what is happening in India.

Why VoteGiri?

There’s a plethora of social networking websites out there, so why create a new one? The first reason is, none of the existing social networking websites are focus on issues that matter to us, Indians. Secondly, VoteGiri™ provides a way to measure the pulse of the nation by integrating a polling mechanism. This is a perfect way to see which way the country is swinging on particular issues. Lastly, the webiste is one of the most userfriendly sites out there. We use Responsive Design principles which renders beautifully on any device, be it a 4 inch screen or a 21 inch desktop.

So please check out our website at www.votegiri.in and provide your feedback.

  1. hi ankit,

some quick observations – your video mentions (like your name suggests) your forum is a place to vote on topics. no where have you mentioned in your showcase post about the obvious – that people not only discuss, but also vote (which is an interesting feature and in my mind your USP??)

do edit and add this part that’s missing.

    – so are all the topics discussed initiated by your users? or you have an editorial team that starts every discussion? how do we know the content being discussed is not sponsored by brands?? eg you have a discussion on paperboat. so did someone from your team initiate it or someone from paperboat start it or it’s a random user who has started it?

https://www.votegiri.in/s/paper+boat+beverages (do you check the user’s background before allowing a post to go up – or like you mentioned – there is no moderation at all?) if rahul – the person who has started the paperboat discussion is a part of the paperboat team – then does that serve any purpose of meaningful objective discussions and voting? just curious to know!

pls add your twitter handle at the end or your post.

  2. Hi Asha,

Thanks a lot for going through our site and coming up with these feedbacks. You made some very valid points here. Let me answer them one by one

    1) Vote and discuss: As suggested by you, I have modified the the initial section . You are right, voting on topics is our primary USP. On top of that, we have a matching algorithm which shows users who agree with you most of the times. We are planning to extend this feature  to include  facebook friends and come up with a way to show friends who think like me.

2)Who creates the topics: Anyone can create a topic and we dont restrict that. As mentioned the topics are not moderated but if someone puts up something offensive, we have flags to report those. If if the admin agrees that the posts are indeed offensive, then we will take it down. We don’t do any background check on the users.

    3) The post from Rahul wasn’t sponsored. But in the future we might add support for sponsored posts and if we do, we will tag such posts as sponsored. Also we dont prevent people from posting on whatever they want. If people like the posts, they will vote and comment, which will make the post show up in the popular section. We also have a recommendation engine built into the platform which makes suggestions based on your voting behavior.

Please let me know if you have any other feedback

  3. Strange – Why will I not use Twitter or Facebook or even a WordPress Plugin?

In your video, all the time has been spent on WHAT people can vote on

But where is the WHY? WHY should I vote at all?

Who is the TG? WHERE will they come from? WHEN will them come? WHAT will be their rewards?

Do you have any market sizing? How many votes are cast online a day in India? What will be your market share?
