The Sumo Wrestler

A leading Sumo Wrestler visited the Monastery to meet Sensei. There was a small reception organized in the winter garden for him. All the monks had gathered and the Sumo Wrestler, dressed in his traditional costume, stood in the centre of the ring that had been specially drawn for him.

The Sumo wrestler was huge, and pulsated with energy. He invited the monks to bout with him. One by one, the monks took a shot!

When Mischief Monk entered the ring, the Sumo Wrestler gently lifted him with one hand, drummed the monk’s bald head and gently placed him outside the ring.

When Angry Monk entered, the Sumo Wrestler rushed at him so fast that Angry Monk screamed in fright.

Business Monk stood next to the Wrestler, got a few photos clicked with him, shook the Wrestler’s hand and stepped away.

Truthful Monk entered the ring and asked the Sumo Wrestler his real name. The Wrestler slapped his right thigh so hard that the sound made Truthful Monk tremble.

Honest Monk did make an attempt to fight the Sumo Wrestler and held the Wrestler’s waist cloth hard. The Wrestler lifted Honest Monk, turned him upside down, strode out of the ring and then deposited him near Sensei!

All the monks laughed. It was turning out to be a really a nice, fun event.

In the end, Humble Monk entered the ring. As was customary, he bowed to the Sumo Wrestler and then reached to touch his feet, as a sign of respect. The Wrestler was stunned and moved back. Humble Monk advanced and repeated his move. The Wrestler stepped back again. After three more repeated actions, the Sumo Wrestler stepped outside of the ring and hence lost the fight!

Sensei gathered everyone and said, “Use humility to confront your Sumo-like ego. Don’t fight your ego, humble it. It will be defeated.”
