The Wind Chime and the Wind

The Wind Chime asked the Wind,

“When will you blow?”

The Wind asked the Wind Chime,

“When will you chime?”

They asked each other this,

All night long.

An ancient, wise owl,

Sitting on a tree branch

Looked expressionless.

He told the pale moon:

“When people lose sight of their effort,

and focus only on their gain,

The universe shrugs, sighs, and moves on.”

The dull moon concurred,

And shone a bit brighter.

Enough for the owl to know

That he was wise

As much as he was old.
