ARE ALL ENTREPRENEURS DUCKS?

Mr Siddharth Roy Kapoor , the current CEO of UTV Motion Pictures in an interview said that his boss Mr Ronnie Screwvala is a Duck. ( Have attached the video byte).

The reason why he felt like that is because his boss looks calm and composed like a floating duck to all but every moment he goes through conflicts in his mind on how best he can implement his ideas vis a vis like a duck paddling aggressively to stay afloat which is not visible to the naked eye.

Being in advertising, I tend to meet entrepreneurs day in and day out and have seen them WORK & THINK from close quarters .Based on the observation of my clients and some research I’ve profiled different types of entrepreneurs as follows:

1)      Laughing Duck   2)      Story teller Duck  3)      Silent Duck  4)      Systems Duck

Laughing Duck

Ducks with a very direct approach towards life and driven by ideological belief system.

Their temperament is blend of choleric + sanguine*

Neither do they give a damn about what people think about them nor do they have qualms of teasing anyone. Working with them can be exhaustive at times but one does feel great or motivated to do more and they do makes mere mortals bring out the best in them. Even under high stress circumstances they tend to crack jokes and make sure people around them are happy. Such ducks won’t be seen in places of gloom. They go by guts more than reasoning and makes sure they impress you with radical facts. They are highly adorable like a kid but at the same time extremely shrewd. Sound of their roaring laughter is far more contagious than any other noise in any given space.

Story teller Duck

Highly spirited ducks that are charismatic and are driven by philosophical belief systems. Temperament is a blend of Melancholic + Choleric.*

Extremely sensitive to rejection of their ideas, if anyone one dares to reject an idea close to their heart they will go to any length and breadth to make sure to weave a story to convince them. They are also prone to abrupt outburst .Normally their desks are very messy. Leads from the front to make the entire team engaged. Very lovable and cooperative but doesn’t not tolerate any sycophancy or nonsensical conversation if it does not benefit them.

Silent Duck

Ducks that are extremely quiet, considerate and are easy going, they are driven by both of religious and ideological belief systems. Temperament is Choleric + Phlegmatic.*

Very flexible in nature, they tend to recognize better ideas but are bad at making decisions. When it comes to giving feedback or opinions, these ducks tend to avoid it as they do not want to hurt a person. Bad financial managers and problem solvers but they encourage others to solve it for them. Highly diplomatic and loyal and is never political in nature.

System Duck

Being Systematic is inborn for these ducks; they are extremely analytical and precise and are driven by religious belief system. Temperament is melancholic+ phlegmatic.*

Tends to hurt others as they are rigid and political in nature. Feedback or suggestion needs to be supported by facts and figures and ensures decision is not made based on guts or intuition. Extremely tidy, their fineness impresses any person and they believe in hierarchy. They make sure to gain trust by meeting promises and deadlines and responds to any query any time. Highly intimidating but trustworthy.

*NOTE : Defintions of each temperaments

*Temperaments

The Sanguine temperament is fundamentally sociable and pleasure-seeking; Sanguine people are impulsive and charismatic.
