GroupUp.in – The Next Generation Group Buying Platform

To get a good discounts, have you ever postponed buying something on festivals like Diwali/Dasara? How many times have you checked out the product at offline stores and bought it from the online store just for the sake of discounts? How many times you have bargained with the shopkeeper for discounts just because you are buying the product/service in a group with your friends? Have you ever waited to drop the price of the particular product and then you bought it?. If any of the above patterns resonate with your buying behaviour then GroupUp is helpful for you.

GroupUp is a platform which allows you to create/join a group of people who are willing to buy the same product as you. GroupUp brings all the offline and online merchants who are competing to give the best deal for your group. You just have to create/join the group and share it on the social platform to grow it. GroupUp will do all the hunting and will make sure to offer the best discount for your group, for no extra cost to the buyers. In a single word, this is reverse Groupon.

We genuinely believe in the power of buying the products in bulk and that too at a discounted price. Current group buying platforms force people to buy a pre-decided products by forming a group in at a discounted rates. I think it should be the other way around. The users should be able to express their intent to buy the product with the group of like minded people and then merchants should offer a competitive discounted price for the product.

Consider you are buying an LG Nexus 5 phone. Typically you go on your favorite online store and look for the discount, or then go to a price comparison site and purchase it from an e-commerce site which provides the best discount. Now consider that your friend is also buying Nexus 5. What if both of you buy that phone together? You should get some more discount, right ?. But for getting discounts why should we rely only on friends. What if you get a platform where you can form/join a group of people buying the same product at the same time? The possibility of getting more discount becomes high. That’s what GroupUp.in is all about!

How the platform is going to work?

The procedure of creating a group is very simple. Just click on Create Group and copy-paste the product link from your favorite e-commerce site like Flipkart, Amazon.in, Snapdeal or PayTm. GroupUp will create a nice product page for your group along with the social sharing widgets. It also indicates the number of people required in the group for offering a decent discount on the product. Now start sharing the group with your friends so that it becomes visible. As soon as the group is created, GroupUp team will start assembling the discount offers for various group sizes, and will keep on updating the group page. As soon as the group size becomes the minimum required size, the final offer is created within two days and a link starts appearing on the group page for paying the amount. This link will be available for the 2 days when anyone can purchase that product. Sadly COD is not available for the first 2 months.

Currently, GroupUp allows only electronics and home appliance purchases. Then we are planning to extend for other product types as well as local service industries like Gyms, Automobile industry.

There is no fun in buying alone. If you are buying something, get hands-on with GroupUp.in for getting group discounts.

  1. hey amit,

    good to see you back!

just a quick observation since i like going through videos – the v/o has a heavy accent and is not very clear. i doubt it will be easy for everyone to understand what he’s saying. you might want to change it.

  2. Hi Asha,

Yes. I have also received the similar feedback from friends. We will update the voice over for the video.

  3. Amit,

    Will this work for CARS?

If I want to buy a E Series (and do many others), but we want it less than 50 lacs?

THINK of a BIG BREAKOUT Group Buying idea…

Something that makes you get INSTANT traction – vs. these 100000 of Phones etc things

  4. Hi Alok,

    Thanks for you inputs.

Yes, this will definitely work for cars. Our plan was to go after electronics devices market first to test out our hypothesis about the product concept. Later we wanted to expand into categories like Automobile, Real Estate and Hyperlocal services (Gym, Fruit buying, Groceries etc).
