  1. amit,

BA/MA in English is a basic requirement ??? what a victorian thought!

you say that MCA/BTech/BCom can’t be good writers???

i’ve known hundreds of non arts grads who are amazing writers!

    alok is an accountant!!

for a content writer – you look at her/his writings. period.

    all the best.

ps: pls proof read your post.

    *piece of cake

  2. Hi Asha,

Thanks for your input, sorry i missed the mistake, i have corrected it now. Well i am not saying non Art grads cannot write good content, one should have a passion for content writing. Like i can do amazing design and architecture for a website, eCommerce etc (being a commerce grad), but cannot write content (not my cup of tea).

Hence if you look at the brief i am looking for partners, who have passion for writing and are just gearing up for a career, I don’t think i will be able to afford writers like Alok ;), at least not now.

So looking for people who have passion for content writing, should have good command over english and grammar, not one who have just started writing content, because after passing BTech etc he/she couldn’t find a job.

I hope i am clear now.. I am not trying to be offensive rather just trying to find a good content partner for my startup.!

    Regards,

    Amit

  3. HI,

You are running a startup. Either you pay high for the qualifications or pay what benefits you and the person being hired – based on his ability to do the job.

If you want MA, BA in English etc for writing, you might be competing with high end publications for people, Any guess who will win.

SEO and other qualities, either hire a person who has the experience or be ready to teach them. Yes all freshers/ experienced candidates mention that they know more than they do – but that’s the reason for interview.

Its not about not being fair. Many people have a job and still freelance. There is a minimum charge for every service. Volumes can give you some bargaining power.

    Always ask for sample.

  4. Hey Amit!!

    Hope you are doing well!

Do you really think BA/MA in English defines or makes it more probable to have a passion for writing?  I have certain arguments against it:

Going by your statement, people choose a particular course because in most of the cases they have a passion for it!! That means we have a hell lot of passionate engineers, lawyers etc. Also, there are so many people pursuing PhD in science because they are passionate about it and that would mean we have an army of innovative scientists too!! I hope you agree with this inference too!!

I would also like to disagree on statement “because after passing BTech etc he/she couldn’t find a job”. Today we have a good startup culture at least relatively better. Lets rewind 15-20 years back. What opinion would people hold about you if you leave your job and start working on some crazy idea?? I guess, you know better!!

I will take another example. You must be aware how you get a science stream and arts stream in schools and colleges. And we as society certain stream as winner and certain other as a looser because according to them one does not choose arts, they get it!! They don’t have a choice. So, comparing all this with your views makes me really confused!!

So, decide for yourself whether you are thinking in the right direction. Food for thought!!

  5. Hi Paddy,

Thanks for responding. If you at look at post, it has certain requisite. Which means either you are a English Hons or have a passion for writing, because i have come across people running content writing firm with no quality.

For me quality is key what ever you do. If you cannot deliver quality there is not point of working. One should focus on quality and should work on improving the quality.

Now lets come to learning, I found youngster driven by money then learning, 8/10 prefer that they get quick money even if they don’t learn or improve their skills. This is something very surprising.

I had left my job in 2009 and started with my venture, but i am ensured that we deliver quality. Even after being a small size, the quality had been the key wither it is content, design, architecture or whatever it is that we delivery to our client.

This can be clearly seen from our project https://www.72interactive.in/

Hence being a start-up i cannot afford to pay Rs 3 to Rs 4/word for content hence looking for a talented partner who can grow with us.

I hope I answered you. If not let me know.

  6. Hi Anthony,

Yes we always ask for sample, we have made it a point that we don’t hire a content writer without a sample, but the quality of sample that we had been receiving is very poor.

Since I believe these are people who don’t have command over English. Content writing is an art, hence one need to have command over English and skills for creative writing.

But still finding it difficult to find a partner, we can speak about volumes if you shortlist one good partner, but find a partner had been difficult so far.

    Regards,

    Amit

  7. Hi Amit,

According to me content writing is not about rules or qualification; it is about being passionate about sharing your knowledge and learning. Alok Bhai writes such mesmerizing content because he is passionate about what he does. So you need to find people who know what your business is about and are passionate about their work.

  8. As usual, I don’t understand what do you mean by “Content Partner”!!

Are you looking for a writer?

Should he or she be a freelancer or an employee?

    What is “Content”?!!

First of all, you need some SERIOUS HELP in writing job descriptions!

TIP – Spend 3 hours on Linkedin and LOOK for HOW people describe the jobs they are posting… Search for the Jobs you are posting and then copy the best descriptions!

  9. Hi Alok,

Thanks for replying to my post. Yes I am looking for a Freelance Content Writer – reason i mentioned partner because are looking for a long terms association.

Secondly, I am not a HR professional, hence not an expert in writing job description. Additionally I didn’t posted this a JD, I just posted this as discussion to take views or start-up like us and other fellow members.

This is the JD on my website – let me know if you have some suggestions – https://www.72interactive.in/career/detail/9

    Regards,
    Amit
