Need Feedback : Mood Based Music Playlists on TunePatrol.com

Hello Rodinhooders!

We at TunePatrol.com (a SaaS platform for Musicians) launched a new feature called “Mood Based Playlists”, which as the name suggests plays music from the website that matches your mood.

Currently the feature is just a quick hack and we wanted to get a lot of feedback from you all before we invest time and resources on it to make it a lot better, so could you please give it spin and tell me if you liked it? 🙂

  1. Why is myspace not better? How is it different from Grooveshark?

  2. The internet is too big for one good product to exist.

  3. 1. Even within a mood, I should have an option of upvoting or downvoting a song. The system should then test me with a type of music, an artist etc and refine my mood list. Once more machine learning hacks are added, the product will improve.

    2. Try to include a wide range of music. If I start a mood, I have some artists or songs in my mind and if they don;t come, I form an opinion.

  4. Both myspace and grooveshark are b2c, we are a b2b company, we focus on building unique localized tools for artists, managers and labels, we are more like reverbnation and cdbaby than myspace and grooveshark.

And if your next question is Why is Reverbnation not better?

They are better in a lot of ways because they are a 7 year old company with millions of dollars in revenue and funding and we are a 3 month old startup, but we have identified areas where we could do much better than them – to begin with 1. people have loved our UI/UX a lot better than Reverbnation 2. we have made it a lot easier for people to browse through content 3. we are working with the different stake holders in the Indian independent music space to give our artists relevant services 4. we are building tools to promote them uniquely in the Indian market.

Hopefully I can add to this list of why we are better over time. 🙂

  5. 1. You do have that option – you can heart any song that is playing inside the player itself! And yes, this is a simple implementation, we will improve it over time.

    2. We are currently hosting aboutt 120 Indian independent artists, we hope to increase this a lot over the coming months!

  6. That’s excellent Brijesh! It’s a great product and thanks for the clarification. I guess I just get overboard in my analysis. 🙂

My objective was just to act as devil’s advocate and think of what all can be done and improved with the current machine learning trends. I myself run a startup in education using machine learning techniques. I know what it feels like when people just come and point out what all can be done without realizing the effort that has already gone in and how much effort it would take to implement something as basic as a search. But hey, that’s an internet user mentality. 🙂 Kudos to your team’s effort and all the best.

  7. Haha I know, but it’s great to have someone doing that from time to time, makes sure that we have a USP.

  8. 🙂
